Bush OKs Execution for Army Private on Death Row

WASHINGTON —  President Bush on Monday approved the execution of an Army private, the first time in over a half-century that a president has affirmed a death sentence for a member of the U.S. military.

With his signature from the Oval Office, Bush said yes to the military's request to execute Ronald A. Gray, the White House confirmed. Gray had had been convicted in connection with a spree of four murders and eight rapes in the Fayetteville, N.C., area over eight months in the late 1980s while stationed at Fort Bragg.

"While approving a sentence of death for a member of our armed services is a serious and difficult decision for a commander in chief, the president believes the facts of this case leave no doubt that the sentence is just and warranted," White House press secretary Dana Perino said

May take longer.  Last time a president approved the execution, it took 4 or 5 years for it to be carried out.

Well, do the crime take the punishment.  Sounds like quite a POS.  I won't be mourning for him.  May his victims families get some peace.

I just wonder what death penalty opponents think the family goes through when their loved one isn't breathing, but the piece of shit that killed them is.

They don't care.  Look at what they said when Tookie was finally up for his execution.  Look at what they say about Mumia.  They have no feelings for the victim's families.

Don't know about that. Would that be unconstitutional? I think federal institutions have them.

Excellent question dj.  That regulation was revised in 2006 to specify the method of execution so I suspect that the Army has since updated the Fort Leavenworth military prison to accomodate such an execution method.
