It's almost August. I'm sick of the summer people.
The area where I live is a poor, rural but beautiful part of Vermont known as the Northeast Kingdom. The town where I live is most often described as "hardscrabble", but just down the road a couple of miles is beautiful pristine Caspian Lake and a thriving summer enclave of privileged people. William Rehnquist vacationed here for decades. On a brighter note, so did Wallace Stegner.
The place I work is sort of the pet place for summer people, not only from this area of Vermont but from all over the state and NH. (We welcome our neighbors- farmers, loggers, the local GLBT community, and make sure that people who aren't wealthy summer folk feel at home and can afford at least some of what's on the menu, and much of the nursery stock). The summer people are so frickin' entitled- they're always the ones letting their dogs run around unleashed and chasing the chickens and running through the display gardens)
This afternoon a particularly obnoxious, large family group is coming. (D.C. repukes, you'd recognize the name). They always arrive late. They're late now. They're demanding and constantly changing their order and running the waitress/waiter ragged. They invariably demand the screened porch- not the garden where they'd have to share space with the hoi polloi. So... we're telling them that the screened in porch is infested with earwigs. Yesterday we called and told them that if they arrive a minute past four we aren't serving them, and we're not offering them any of the specials or catering to any special dietary requests.
Petty revenge can be sweet.
20 minutes to go. They will show up at 4. We will not let them stay. We're all hoping they never come back.

10. Some people feel entitled and have no manners.
We just returned from Sandbridge Beach (VA) where we were surrounded by "guests" in neighboring cottages who were loud and obnoxious. They played volleyball in the pool till 3 am and others did not put their garbage in the proper place. The man next door is a year round resident and must get up for work so he could not have been liking that volleyball thump over and over. The locals have to hate the visitors who have no respect for anything. I hope your group does not show up and you have a pleasant afternoon.
I checked the site and the place looks fabulous. I love VT and will try to find it on our next trip. Plus, you have phlox. I may have to order some since it will be a while till I get to NE again. Thanks for the link, Cali.

The place sounds like a frou-frou shithole of the sort designed to separate Massholes and other pretentious blowhards from their money, so why is she upset that her customers are pretentious blowhards who act like Massholes?

As someone who has to daily deal with those that are from downstate or the suburbs of NJ or CT let me tell you it is the urban folks that are as obnoxious as hell.

For the record, conservativecave in general and the DUmpster specifically have never felt any necessity to delete anything; what's done is done, and there isn't a damned thing one can do about. If there's been anything embarrassing, well, one accepts, adapts, and moves on.
Now, I'm not 100% sure--only 99.9% sure--that it's never happened here, but I myself have never never never felt compelled to delete a thread or even a comment; the most franksolich has ever done is replace a naughty word with a less-naughty word in someone else's comments.

Yesterday, I made a grievous error of judgment and I want to try to rectify it in any way that I can.
I posted a message here venting inappropriately about some of the customers at my the place I work. In doing so I deeply hurt my employers, wonderful people who I admire and care for deeply. I apologize to them and I'm so sorry for the pain and trauma I've caused them. I also apologize to the unnamed family I insulted.
I want to make it absolutely clear that what I expressed in that post in NO way is reflective of my the views of my employers. They are terrific, accepting and welcoming people. The last thing they deserve is to be hurt by my having been an idiot. They were shocked and horrified by what I wrote, which was emailed to them by someone who posted thread. I completely understand their reaction.
As of today I have tendered my resignation. It's the least I could do to try and right the wrong I created.
Again, I am so sorry to have hurt folks who have been so very good to me.

It was more than silly, it was mean-spirited and it was business sabatoge. Now, I think this place is skating on thin ice with the health dept anyway, since it's not chock full of gleaming stainless steel, and some of their food storage is conducted in a barn. For her to claim an insect invasion is a serious breach.
DUmmies hate business. We all know that. They just can't help themselves but to be revolted by such capitalistic concepts as customer service and competitive advantage through superior service. This is what happens. Jobs are lost.

Well, after seeing the menu, this place offers, I did some research to back up my observations. High Tea is not a main meal, but a light repast around 2:00. Usually consists of tea, and a variety of pastries, sometimes light sandwiches

I grow tons of lavender. I just love the stuff. It actually has a wonderful flavor. I have a scones recipe I add it to occasionally and I put it in some of the herbal tea mixes I make. Comte cheese is just Gruyere. It's French, dontcha know. They must have a heck of a lot of Cochins because they aren't the world's greatest layers.

If I were a restaurant owner, and were forced to choose, I'd probably rather have an employee spitting in the food than calling well-to-do, large party, frequent customers with the insulting messages DUmmy cali claimed to have given.
No seating if a minute late. No special orders. No dietary accommodations. A clear message they are unwelcome.
If the owner didn't immediately fire her, and call the customer begging forgiveness, he deserves to go out of business.

So... we're telling them that the screened in porch is infested with earwigs. Yesterday we called and told them that if they arrive a minute past four we aren't serving them, and we're not offering them any of the specials or catering to any special dietary requests.

I grow tons of lavender. I just love the stuff. It actually has a wonderful flavor. I have a scones recipe I add it to occasionally and I put it in some of the herbal tea mixes I make. Comte cheese is just Gruyere. It's French, dontcha know. They must have a heck of a lot of Cochins because they aren't the world's greatest layers.

I've had this problem when I've posted an image, noticed it was way too large, went back to PB to resize it, and then when I came back to check it was still big. Usually holding the shift button down while clicking on the refresh button will force the image to reload from PB.

So let me see if I understand where things stand...cali posts a shitty screed about a republican and family that came to have lunch. She didn't mention their name so we're only left to speculate WHO they are and if they really exist. But the cafe (which looks like a lovely place from the pictures on the website and it must smell heavenly with phlox growing everywhere), is not only NAMED, but is linked to. And we learned they have a room full of earwigs. We can even look at the pictures and see if we can figure out which room is the earwig palace! Of course I'm thinking that's better than having silverfish running around wily nilly like they do in the hospitals in Seattle!
Absolutely none of this had to happen if she'd told her little story WITHOUT using names and links. She insulted a customer (without whom she wouldn't have a job) and pretty much invited the health inspectors to make a special trip. Yet, we're the hateful ones. She could've kept politics out of it all together because we all know the real reason for her rant was to complain about Republicans, their unruly kids, and their incessant demands (sort of like SanFranNan insistence on using the Air Force as her family's private airline). She simply could have said, "Boy I'll be glad when tourist season is over!" Who wouldn't feel that way once in a while? But no, she practically put one of those blinking arrow signs up that said "EAT HERE AND ENJOY THE WILD EARWIG FARM". They might as well just let the Cochins in there to eat them, (my chickens find them delectable) because no one's gonna want to eat in there now, any way.
Still, as hateful as I am, I'm going to refrain from mentioning the name of the cafe again. cali did enough damage and small business IS the backbone of America. God (or Gaia) bless them!

It flummoxes me, because I've watched the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive for years now, and this was w-a-a-a-a-y out of character for her; it was definitely an anamoly.
The bitter old Vermontese cali primitive has been around the block a few, if not several times; she knows the way life is, and she's not what one would call stupid or unintelligent.
So why? What happened inside of her brain to cause her to do this?
I'm starting to suspect a minor cerebral aneurysm (the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive after all is not exactly young, or even middle-aged) caused by the overuse of pharmaceuticals. I've seen this happen a great deal, these sudden abrupt out-of-thin-air eruptions and aberrations.

I remember once I was bored on the internet and I went searching for interesting boards to read, came across a board where people in the customer service industry would gripe, it was mostly waiters and waitresses. I thought some of the gripes were interesting so I bookmarked the site and would read it every once in a while. Well 1 night a waitress posted about her experience with a family, next thing you know someone registered at the board and it turned out it was the customer that was being complained about, the customer sent a private message to the person doing the complaining and gave her the name of the place she worked, what the waitress looked like and described the table of people just to let her know that it was really the customer. Turned out it was and the waitress posted how embarrassed she was about the whole situation and it ended fine, but the waitress was a little nervous. The customer said she read that board all the time because she found it interesting and was shocked when she was being described.

It's pretty interesting reading. My husband and I personally never do any of the garbage these servers are complaining about and in fact go out of our way to leave at least 20% for fair service, 25%-30% for excellent service. However, twice in our lives, hubby has insisted on leaving a penny tip, just so the server knew we hadn't forgotten, for absymal service due totally to the waiter. We know all about how the kitchen gets backed up, electricity fails, etc., so forth and so on, and have in fact, while dining with friends who refused to tip under those circumstances, left enough money for their tip as well as ours...But when we get a server who made us wait twenty minutes after being seated to even bring the menu, in a restaurant with barely any customers and an off peak hour to boot, while she stood chatting with her fellow waitresses, then proceeded to ask very put out and rude whenever we dared address her at all, including simply requesting what was on the menu, well, it was a penny for that bitch.
The restaurant in question folded shortly thereafter. Can't imagine why, oh wait, yeah, anyone we knew who'd gone there vowed to never return due to the horrible attitudes of all the wait staff. Mom and Dad, if your teenager and young adult children SAY they don't want to wait tables, they probably won't lower your cost margin any when you utilize their "services" either. :whatever:

The town of Rindge had a special election this spring which included a lot of individual budget items, like buying a new dump truck. Just prior to the election, DUmmy Raven, Jane Pitt, posted a screed at the DUmp ripping her superiors in the Rindge administration, and the voters of Rindge, as a bunch of stupid fundie yokels, who wanted to nothing but cut, cut, cut. Immediately after the election, she was abruptly replaced by her assistant. The council met in closed session for a personnel matter, and there was never an explanation of why she was replaced.
She was wallduded for sure if that post she made at the DUmp ever made it into the hands of the Rindge council, who are apparently a bunch of fundie yokels by Pitt standards.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but I guess I need to get it off my chest. I totally get the fact that we can't post at DU, and I totally get posting the political posts and we get to answer them here because we can't answer them there, but where do people draw the line? I know personally I avoid discussions that involve physical and mental illness, but even though she posted those things about her employer which was wrong wrong wrong, what would possess someone to step over that line though and get involved to the point where someone loses their job? Politics is totally fair game, but when it comes to a person's private life and or work life? why would anyone feel the need to get involved with that? I've always felt that politics shouldn't be personal, and yeah, maybe it's just me, but what's the line that people draw?

This was applied in both the cases of the walldude primitive and the cali primitive.
The primitive always makes the first move.

And why I especially feel sorry for natives of the southern states, being inundated with liberals from the northeastern states.

Thank you for those kind words Frank... After the hilarity of that awful affair died down I thought to myself, "Wow...I don't want to create a problem for these folks at CC." You all have been very nice and welcoming, far more then I had ever experienced at DU. And while jumping around the forums here I never got that 'ice-pick in my right temple' feeling I get when I read the DU nonsense.
The one thing that does sadden me is that I was not able to explain to the group think WHY I had in fact contacted the owners Perennial Pleasures. I'm also flabbergasted that I was TS'd for THAT.
In my defense I would like to say I view an employee admitting to an insect infestation at a food service establishment a very serious breech of assumed confidentiality. In these tough economic times the last thing a gem like PP needs is that kind of negative posting existing on the Google search engine.
If and when I go to Vermont I would like to be sure Perennial Pleasures is still in business so that -I- can enjoy Cream Tea whilst sitting upon a rattan chair. Holding my pinky out, sipping tea, and being serenaded by the haunting calls of the Cochin is something I am sure anyone would fight for.
Am I selfish? Yes. It has been a hot summer and my job is physically demanding so when I saw, perhaps, the only chance for me to be treated like a red hat society lady vanishing before my eyes I had to act to defend this crown jewel of the North East Kingdom.
Sadly, I am not able to explain this to the groupthink, and I will forever be known as a DU pariah.

Funny thing, I thought I was a Democrat then I spent time on DU... Ive been TS'd three times from that place.. On my first account I was amazed on some of what I read and tried to engage in harmless debate.. I was pizza'd and since then it just became a joke hobby to mess with them.. Actually I credit DU for letting me know I have some conservative values..

Shortly prior to my divorce the Mrs. and I spent a couple weeks at a business acquaintance Mexican Villa on the coast. had a chauffeur, Butler, maids, personal valets the works. It was strange at first but then it felt good to be "Privileged" and pampered for awhile.
Someday perhaps I may live out the rest of my life in such a style. Couple commas shy to my net worth but it could happen. :wink:

But then as the lurking primitives read it, they went into action, getting the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive in trouble, right before our very eyes.
Nobody, but nobody, seemed to imagine all this would happen.....and from a thread innocently and routinely posted.
