What I've learned from DU

I'm a concerned voter. I'm a Democrat. I have been coming to DU daily since February of 2001 as a place where progressives meet and discuss issues and politics.

I have enjoyed my seven years in this fine community and anticipate that I will enjoy many more.

In terms of elections, I come to DU to understand the intricate policy differences between candidates. I come here to engage in intellectual discussions that are enlightening, thought provoking, and supportive. I value the quality time I spend here and thank Skinner and the gang for providing this forum.

Based on viewing the conversations here the past few months, here is my take on the two front runners in the Democratic primary:

Hillary Clinton is a power hungry politician who can't make it on her own without the help of her husband. She is a liar and closet conservative. She voted to put troops on the ground in Iraq and since she will never apologize for this she is not fit to be the President. She will be overly hawkish because she will feel that she needs to rattle the sabers in order to prove her ability to be a fighter when necessary. She has a annoying laugh and is a racist. She will make a terrible president because she doesn't really care about you and me, she just cares about power. She is really in league with the Joe Lieberman's of the world and is a DLC water carrier. Progressives can't trust her. She can't win in the South because the south hates her for her coldness and the fact that she is a woman. If she is the nominee then the Democrats will surely lose the General Election because everyone hates her. If I don't vote for her, however, then I'm a misogynist and Hillary-Hater.

Barack Obama is a fake progressive who has a piss poor plan to provide Universal Health Care. Hell, he only wants to cover 80% of Americans in his plan. He is too green to be trusted with the reigns of power. He has never voted for anything in his political life choosing to vote "present" all of the time. He has a cozy relationship with some shady people. He is too connected to corporations and will never push to enact legislation that will hurt his corporate masters. His followers are cult-like and Obamanics. He tries to be JFK but he's no JFK! He keeps a messy desk. He wants to talk with our enemies instead of blowing the crap out of them. His only allure is that he is a black man. He has limited plans with limited specifics. All he is running on is the word "Change". If I don't support him then it is because I'm a white man and a racist. He's unfit to be the president because of his lack of experience. If he wins the nomination then he will never carry a southern state because he is African-American. He's just a "feel good" candidate.

So....based on what I have learned here I have decided to support neither of these candidates and write in my mother. She's absolutely wonderful.
-sarcasm off -
Now, if you over the top Clinton supporters and over the top Obama supporters don't cut it out, then you will be sent to your virtual rooms without virtual dinner!

Damn it people! Cut the crap out and stop staring at your navels long enough to realize that what you are doing is highly destructive!

Thankfully, I know that the majority of DUers are as sick as I am at seeing the poo being thrown around the monkey cage here. We also know that there are a minority of DUers who are engaging in the foolishness.

Act like adults! Act like progressives! Act like critical thinkers who can engage in debate without name calling!

Damn it to hell....

Now go to your rooms.

We are all too busy posting our snide remarks about the Obama "cult" or the Hillary haters.

On edit, I think we should return to the past requirement of a minimum of at least three full sentences in every post. That might slow them down for a few seconds anyway.

please I'm tired of checking the campfires just to see "am so, is not"

11. When I logged on after work today....
I was shocked to see several posts in GD-Primaries that mentioned....I can not even say her name out loud.....Her initials are M.L. and it was mentioned by Clinton haters. Dear God. I thought we were on the same team. The team named Democrats. I feel heartbroken after I saw that today. What have we become?

you're still the same poo flinging primitives.............nothing has changed

I learned that there is such a thing as a 'business hour'.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

"Critical Thinking"="any and all liberal/socialist/communist ideas."

"progressive"="liberal/socialist/communist"

What I've learned from DU:

NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
