Looks like Conservativeunderground has been hacked with a ransom demand.

That is correct. Some prick is demanding I send him
0.1 Bitcoin (about 2,300) by the 22nd or he will cripple
the site totally.
Not going to happen. I'll be bringing the site down before
then and work on a rebuild and upgrade to make sure
it doesn't happen again.
Some people are real assholes. And I'd bet you a dollar
it's a Libtard.

Yeah. I made the decision to stop going to cu last Saturday because those 2 made it very unpleasant. I believe in giving someone with a differing point of view a chance to express their viewpoint, but those 2 are arrogant assholes

Also, remember, Clod Warrior's had a rather impressive professional career, and those with that sort of accomplishments don't have the time or inclination, really, to play teenager games.
So if one of them in fact is Clod Warrior, well, Clod Warrior needs to hide himself in shame and embarrassment for not acting his age, or not acting his ostensible level of maturity.

Absolutely. There was a warning, and as SR mentioned above, he was going to make every attempt to resurrect the site with the Vbulletin platform. Not my area of expertise.
At the very least, I captured everyone's post count in a fit of panic when I first heard the news.

Sorry about the bogus emails, my ISP told me they had shut those
off but I guess not. In any case the server is now Off so you won't
get any more. We'll be doing a full purge and reinstall at some
point.
I'm working with both my ISP and vBulletin to get this solved. I want to
know how this prick bypassed all the security. We'll find out
eventually.
As to who is responsible, I don't believe it's CW. Even though he is annoying
we have had a civil talking relationship on CU and he has backed off when
I've asked him to. I believe this is someone else.

Btw, in the hacker's message he put up on the site, he said something to the extent of "I dedicate this to my teacher who told me I wouldn't do sh@t with my life."
So, even in the hacker's imagined "victory," he brings up what a pathetic, thin- skinned loser he really is!
Also, he's proving the teacher was right: hacking websites and trying to extort money from their administrators aren't exactly signs of making something of yourself.

the server they will of course go away.

I would guess there was a vulnerability in the update SR said he just ran, and some hacker's bot scanning ip addresses found it. Doubt it was our last trolls, or even someone who knew what site they were hitting.

The update I mentioned last week was strictly on our ISP's
end. They were doing a hardware update on all their servers.
From talking with our ISP's tech staff it looks like this current
fiasco is the fault of a problem with the vB code or maybe an
addon to CU's site.
I'm hoping vBulletin's staff may have seen this or something like
it in the past. We need to know how this hacker got past all the
security or they'll just do it again.

Heard back from my tech support guy and we just have to setup
a time when I can turn the server back on for him to start looking
at this. I will also see if he can get the email thing fixed quick but
you might see a few and if you get one please ignore it.

This statement concerns me greatly. I'm a Super Mod over there (Apocalypse) and never got one. He likely used the sites mass email system that would send out an email to every registered member.
But if I never got one, and sounds like SR and a couple other mods didn't ether. Then it's highly likely our accounts have had their email's changed to something he controls. Meaning should we just change our PW's when we log back in thinking that would be good enough, he could then use the email system to do a recover lost pw for our accounts. And judging by what he had up when he took the site down, My guess is SR's account was absolutely under his control.
SR if you read this, when you get the site back up, you better remove all mod powers of everyone until we can get our accounts fully back under our control. Changed our PWs and email links to our accounts.

I remember there was another troll who got banned repeatedly at CU. He also caused trouble I remember. I remember he threatened people.

Certainly miss perusing the site considering I've been a member for 16+ years. Know how much you and STLW care about CU, and am confident that you will do everything in your Vader-esque power to get everything restored.

Well yes, of course, in the current political climate, it's going to be a nuisance keeping up with repairing constant damage done by amateur totalitarianists, and so I just wouldn't bother.
I'm sure there's alternative ways--in existence right now, or not invented yet--to express ourselves. I urge sitting back several weeks, a few months, to see what happens.....as I fully expect the political landscape will be considerably changed by spring, when the crazed lefties learn they aren't going to get all they want.

Type in Parler.com in any internet browser and you can find it and use the site. Due to the influx of refugees since November, it might take time.

For those who know me, I'm taking a hiatus from politics for a while. I work with the public and with what went on, it just pisses me off to no end and I can't go around in a bad mood. Not really been watching the news, or following it very much. Give me time I will calm down.
