instant Polly ????
« on: June 30, 2013, 03:04:20 PM »

Waking up from my nap with Fox News on there was an ad that sounded like it has all kinds of positive possibility's.

Some one has come up with a motion activated Parakeet that looks real and sings it's heart out.

Ad says to put it in a bird cage and few can tell the difference between it and a real bird,.   It does not eat or crap, needs no care and no need for a real one.

I wonder what my Parakeet would think of it in a cage next to theirs.   Tempted to give it a try, only $14.95 for 2 and one can take it out of the cage and walk about on their hand or shoulder.

I asked Hubby, he had also seen the ad so I was not dreaming.

Is this some kind of a Twilight Zone thing,  Next will be dogs and cats.  How about motion activated baby's that do not eat or need a diaper?   Soon horses that respond to our movements, gallop about like the real thing as we ride them.

.Science Fiction is knocking at our door, has been for the last 50 years but as was said, if one can imagine it, it can  and will come to past.

I seem to recall seeing on Drudge. last week maybe, something about some scientists developing a robot that walks as a cat does.

Another stupid fad for stupid people...hopefully a short lived fad but then will come the "Save Instant Polly" people and new environmental laws to protect the habitat of the newest endangered species, Instant Polly.

....and some capitalist will be laughing all the way to the bank.

They could also be useful alarms for the inside of one's house.

Excellent idea, good going.

Some how I am think of the what you call them, Fur baby's that was such a big fad 8 or so years ago.

Darn things we had a couple and so did everyone I knew.   We would bring them to work and at lunch set them on a table in the Cafeteria and they would all talk to each other, some gibberish some actual words, unfortunately a couple taught most of the others to say Screw you or some other really interesting words.  What fun, my baby's only learned to say words I had to shout at the dog, "stop it"
 or  "bad dog".

I will have to go a hunting in the back room to see if I still have them.  Anyway, I believe they cost me $10 bucks each when they first came out and later that year they were going for $50.00.

For the real thing, my bird in 10 years has never done anything but sing.  In the past I have had half moon conjures that were good birds, smart but they never learned to say a word even as I put on bird training tapes and tried to train  them with sunflower seeds.

So I ask the bird people, do your birds speak, did you train them or were they talkers when you got them?

I know it is the male canary that teaches his boys to sing, in the world of other breeds of birds do female parrots talk ?

I do think I will get a couple of these instant Polly's to keep my bird company, and wait for the technology that went into the fur baby's to get to the  instant Polly's, and teach my bird to talk.

vesta, Mrs E and I have two parrots. The eldest at 12 years is a female Solomon Island eclectus. She does not talk. She'll grunt when she wants something, but no verbiage.

Our Congo African grey at age 6 is a jabbermouth. You can't shut her up. Says all kinds of stuff, even counts from 1-7 (sometimes misses "4" or "5" but does well otherwise).

Says lots of other stuff too, including "Gimme a kiss!" and then makes a kissy sound. She'll ask, "Where's the kitty cat" then make a meow sound. Same with "puppy dog", "the runner" (meaning road runner), "the chicken", and "the rooster." She'll call out the names of the other animals, admonishing Lexie to use the doggie door, and when the dogs go apeshit trying to get out of the doggie door so they can investigate encroachment of our property by a neighboring dog running loose, she'll emulate that sound too.

The conure screams and the Amazon, same thing. We're fostering those two birds, though.

How wonderful if not a bit spooky to have a talking pet.   I saw this Youtube of a neighborhood fight between 2 woman where one taught her parrot to yell out Slut and Bitch when the neighbor came outside on her deck.

Japan a big white Parrot got loose and when found taken to the police station where the bird told her name and address.
