AN explosion in rabbit numbers to levels not seen since the calicivirus release in 1995 has raised fears of a new plague in South Australia.

Experts warned yesterday rabbits were breeding-up because of a reduction in control measures, the declining virulence of calicivirus and the banning of traps and culling, AdelaideNow reports

Foundation for Rabbit-Free Australia chairman Tim Rogers said there could be a catastrophic increase when the drought broke and feed was plentiful.

Rabbit traps are banned?  Where?

Hell, free meat - as long as you get them checked out first.  I figure that would be the easiest way to catch them.

I'd be pretty uneasy about eating the rabbits in question. Unless you were really, really sure. All the ones I've seen have been dirty brown things that have running eyes and often open sores.

LC EFA, what's with that?  Did your PETA-philes manage to outlaw killing off the hoppy little vermin?

That last sentence sounds more like a description of DUmmies.

Yep. Pretty much.

The deeply crazy environmentalists (and the animal libbers are a component of that) have a disturbing level of political pull.

Much of the game is "protected" and this has resulted in plague proportions. One still can't without a permit legally harvest any. The rules vary a bit on feral animals. Especially on private land. Especially in remote areas where attitudes are a lot more relaxed.

Luckily, they've called in an expert:

Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.
