Digital camera advice
« on: September 06, 2008, 08:42:28 PM »
My old Canon S3 is apparently nearing the end of it's life so I'm needing some advice on a new digital. The more optical zoom the better. I'd like the price to be less the $500.

mods, sorry if this is not the best section for this. I started to stick it in the computer section but didn't think it fit there.

My best advice is to find one you like and in the price range, then just google the name and model number.  Most likely you'll find a ton of reviews from reputable  websites.  That's what I did when I bought my Kodak Z740 several years ago. I've been happy with it.

$500 is on the high end of the mid-range.  You should be able to get a pretty good camera for that.

Shit, I got a Kodak 7.1 MP with 4x optical zoom from Target a few months ago for under $200.00. Ya might wanna look into that, ChuckJ. It's a good little camera. Either that, or the Nikon CoolPix.

I have a Canon A580 and a Canon A630. No complaints whatsoever. Both cost under 250. If you're looking at the 500 dollar range, you're looking above what I'd pay for one. The Rebel, a little more, is an AWESOME camera from EVERYONE I know that has one.

I've thought about the Rebel, but it looks like more camera than I want.

Look real closely at Sears. They carry some decent cameras and you MIGHT be able to score one that's being closed out. I just recently purchased a Sony Cybershot, 3x optical zoom, 8 Megapixels for $62 before taxes. It's MSRP was $220.

I have the Canon A580.  I bought it a few months ago for $107 (online, no taxes or shipping).  It's a good little camera.  I'm happy with it.
