Tile Setting Hurts like hell

When you start in the trade the boss tells you move this. Onto the truck. TWO tons of stuff. Sand, cement, clay, thinset and box after box of tile. 2 tons. FIVE TIMES you move it. On the truck, off the truck, through the box, into buckets, into the house and on the walls or floor. essentially you move two tons of stuff five times, each and every day you work.

the pain is overwhelming and I cannot go on like this anymore. Im 57 and haven't eaten anything for three days and am trying to starve to death right now. Done. No healthcare. No doctor. No meds. Top that with three abscessed teeth and you get the idea

Squeamish Carcinoma on right leg and evidence of another one on my face. Carpal tunnel so bad that it make me cry.

And then there is the fact that I am a caregiver for my Mom whom I dislike immensely. (Due to my Father using me as cheap and in a lot of cases free labor, settting tile. I started doing Man's work when i was ten years old and My Mom did nothing about that or the bazillion other things my Dad did to me)

All the above are from separate responses, and can be summed up by "Woe is me!"  There are some replies with suggestions for free help, others with "I can top this", but it's all about misery.  One would think that the Community Organizer would have fixed all this with all that "hopey/changey" stuff.
This too shall pass.

The wage today is unchanged from the 80's and in some cases is actually less, thanks to right to work and piece work. No healthcare, No retirement. No future. Once you are broke down you are broke down. Then there is nothing but pain. intense pain from the tips of toes to the tips of your fingers. FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. So bad is the pain that all i want to do is have it go away.

And yes this is in response to the porn actress. Pain and being used is not uncommon but everyone jumps on the pron angle. well come on to the job site someday and work one day in 110 degrees and move two tons of shit five times each and every day.

If you worked in a office, you'd complain about premature death from a heart attack from inactivity. If you worked in a factory, you'd complain about premature death from a unsafe working conditions from the evil overlords. The obvious choice is to have the Government support you from the cradle to the grave.

Sorry to hear about your condition. I worked with a chainsaw for several years, and still need to cut my firewood. I'm not a "Happy Camper" with my shoulder and elbow pains, but at least I collect some Social Security and don't have to work with a weed eater or chainsaw to pay the bills any more.

Now I cannot do anything and thanks to her not dealing with a form on time< I get no money and have had NOT ONE DIME SINCE January. I am at least another month from being paid and my car is about to die.

I didn't start this thread to be a woe is me thing but I am at the very end of it right now and have no idea how to deal with anything. because i am on the payroll (despite the SNAFU) I ahve to pay out of pocket for any and all medical care even though I only make 500 dollars a month. I just went through that withe a stuck Q Tip that cost me 11 hundred dollars.

made me deeply grateful I didn't have to set tile for a living.

However, all physically stressful work wrecks your body. Nurses get it in the knees, hips and back. And feet. All of mine are bad to the point that I've been on pain killers for the past 20 years.

Any desk jockey of any type who thinks raising the retirement age is a good idea needs to be put to work doing hard physical labor for at least six months, then asked again.

We need to lower the retirement age for people who do hard physical work and/or are confronted with the corporate age expiration date.

Raising the age is unconscionable.

Procured without a prescription.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Good luck with your hunger strike, DUmbass. That Squeamish Carcinoma sure is a bitch, especially when it gets on your face, and your carpal tunnel is so bad you can't scratch it or masturbate to distract yourself from the squeamishness.

So no consideration to adjusting ones journey to accommodate those things? My best friend is a stylist. She's been on her feet and working with chemicals for 25 years now. In between raising a family she saved and planned and just opened her own salon where she can now pick and choose her appointments and transition to managing other stylists. I would think this is a possibility in any other skilled trade and is something the skilled trade person keeps in the back o their mind during their career about the necessity to find a way to transition their skills into a more aged friendly situation. For warpy you would think a nurse would be even more aware of the stresses on the human body to plan for such an event then your average bricklayer. If she's that incompetent to not piece those things together I guess we can see why she's really no longer in that occupation.

The poor man, at the age of 10 his father began to teach him a trade.   This meant the father spent allot of time with his boy teaching and directing him to insure the son had a way to make a living when he was gone.

One would think after 8-10 years of guidance the boy would be one of the best tilers in the State. I may be wrong here but unless the father held him captive, there were other trades he could gone into had he hated the job and received low pay.

For 40 years or so this POOR MAN stuck with the trade he had been taught and hated.   When he began to realise that the work was affecting his health say after 20 years or so, this Poor man did not take night classes in another trade, I bet by now he was a master craftsman and made some big bucks.   Why start at the bottom of a new trade when he was at the top of his trade ???

Laying tile is an art, we still find magnificent tile works 5,000 years old.   So the Poor man was at 10 taught one of the oldest trades known to man and must have benefited from it most of his life.

Shame, Shame, Shame, on his father for forcing his son to become an artest with a trade he could carry on his back.

Asshole,

There's not a day something doesn't hurt somewhere on me and I know I'm not the only one here who can say that.

IT'S CALLED LIFE!

If you want a life free of work, discomfort, disease, hunger?

Maybe next time God will send you back as a veal calf. At least then you'll be of some use to somebody.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Hey I had better jobs but you know what, I wound up working outside doing something I was good at and did love to do.....well, maybe not every day but most of the time. :-)

A good tile setter, with a bit of motivation and a modicum of business sense, can do very well.  This (D)oUche just decided he was happy being a laborer and, having never done anything except :stoner: , is bitching at the aches and pains at 57.

Says a lot about his motivation and work ethic.

Threads without dates are a waste.

I believe DUmmy Bennyboy is the enormous blubbery drone, 50-ish, who lives in the basement of his parents' home. He has claimed to have planned many escapes, all unsuccessful, that involve travelling cross-country on his motorcycle.

One involved a dash to the West Coast, overlooking the fact it was winter.

Given his fat reserves, if DUmmy Bennyboy stopped eating on 3/17, he could reach a healthy weight around June if the squeamish diabetes doesn't get him.

Nevertheless, I would not waste a Dead Pool slot on him.

For either one. Not for CMSIP (indigent health services) either because I am employed. (my take home is 500 a month and that disqualifies me from all of that). Single guy's get shit. I have been turned down for disablity twice now (over a three year period).. and according to my attorney, Due to not having healthcare for ten years now, I will not qualify this time either because I do not have health records to substantiate my injuries and disabilities..
Read over this next part. Blames everyone but himself.
I am taking care of my Mother because my brother, who was the darling of the family, moved to Montana 4 years ago to avoid that. Brother had a good job offer. And that left me. For a while I was doing it because it was the right thing (free basements are hard to come by) but as the years tick off it is killing me. She becomes more selfish as the days go on and she gets more demanding but my hours keep getting cut. I should be making enough hours to get medical insurance (SEIU) but I don't and won't...and there is a two year waiting list once you get the hourly threshold. the thing is my Mom is a hard core right wing bible beating republican and has voted against all that, She voted for Arnold and he is the guy who made IHSS the whipping boy of CA and got my hours cut four times.

Dori, over at the thread, someone posted a loooong list of all the available help he could get.  Addresses, phone numbers, websites, all the details.  As far as I know, he didn't even say thank you.

If you were a diabetic, and hadn't had any food in three days (or insulin, presumably), wouldn't you be dead already?

If you were a diabetic, and hadn't had any food in three days (or insulin, presumably), wouldn't you be dead already?

What an unpleasant person.

Odds are he's stuffing his face as he posts about his hunger strike.

I would think he would be dead within 24 to 48 hours. I know what happens when my wife's sugar drops and I can't imagine she would last long if she didn't get a sugar boost quickly.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.
