Title: Need Help Viewing Photos
Post by: Eupher on May 03, 2013, 10:56:24 PM
This is an issue that I've had for awhile and I'm completely flummoxed as to how to fix it.

Photographs on my computer, where they are located in a folder, are not visible as photos. I can see that they are FILES and each .jpg has a flower-type design to it, but viewing the actual photo as they are listed in a folder, doesn't happen.

I can right-click on a photo and select "Preview" from that menu and the photo comes up just fine. But where it's sitting, nope, doesn't happen.

Where this becomes a problem is when you want to upload a photo to something like Photobucket or to attach to an email. In selecting that photo, I'm not able to tell what the photo is, based on its file name (which is usually "DSCXXX").

Is there something I need to do with Windows (I'm running Win7 Home Premium, 64bit)?

Anybody there know how to fix this?

TIA!

Sounds like your file associations are goobered up.

Right-click and select Open With....  You should get a list of programs.  I use Windows Photo Viewer as my default.

Right-click where? Should I call up a folder where I have photographs and then right-click?

Are you trying to get a small preview of your picture instead of the standard file type icon?  It's View > Thumbnail (should be in the upper right corner).

Not really sure what your problem is.

I think that's the problem. I don't have the View > Thumbnail option. I can view Large, Medium, Small icons; Details, but there is no option for "Thumbnail."

I found this but I seem to be having the same problem with my copy of Win8 Pro.  My Win7 computer runs fine.

Displaying thumbnails in Windows Explorer will require that Windows Photo Viewer is set as the default program with all of it's default associations (except .gif files) set with it as well.
File associations can be changed in Control Panel > Default Programs

I fixed it. I had to go to Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab and then select "Display file icon on thumbnails".
