Graphic images that reveal the devastating impact of global warming in the Arctic have been released by the US military. The photographs, taken by spy satellites over the past decade, confirm that in recent years vast areas in high latitudes have lost their ice cover in summer months.

The pictures, kept secret by Washington during the presidency of George W Bush, were declassified by the White House last week. President Barack Obama is currently trying to galvanise Congress and the American public to take action to halt catastrophic climate change caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

One particularly striking set of images - selected from the 1,000 photographs released - includes views of the Alaskan port of Barrow. One, taken in July 2006, shows sea ice still nestling close to the shore. A second image shows that by the following July the coastal waters were entirely ice-free.

 See, this is why I advocate use of the term "Climate Disruption" in lieu of "global warming." It's a much more accurate description in terms of consequences, as opposed to global warming, which speaks to the cause. It's a shame that so many people conflate the two - I hear the same type of denial all the time (or used to when I lived in the Midwest).

 Looks like pretty hard evidence. Rather's reporting on Bush's NG record was 100% accurate. The problem with Rather's reporting was that the story was in fact 100% accurate. Are you implying that the records Rather reported on were not accurate? Are you implying that Bush served honorably in the NG? That he never went AWOL? What's your point?

Well, realistically, I know they will never look again once they have two data points that appear to go the right way for their argument, and the Obama administration is full of both equally stupid twits who think the same way and manipulative trolls who know exactly which buttons to push on the twits.

Seriously, such a Duh moment for the DUmmies.  If the arctic did not warm during the summer, then life for the creatures up there they are oh so concerned about would be unsustainable.  The Arctic Tundra warms and blossom during the spring and summer, ice melts, life is wonderful, then the ice grows again once cold weather hits.  This is what is supposed to happen!  If the ice did not shrink, then many animals would starve to death, people would be miserable, and it would be indicative (presuming that it lasted for more than a year or so) that another ice age may be beginning.

You know...  I can pull satellite images from all over the world, including polar ice caps, at any time of the year.  Not once in the 8 years I've had this capability have I ever been told that I was not allowed to look at the ice caps.   :whatever:

My brother does the Artic missions.  He just said the other day that the scientists that he flies there all have stated the same thing -- man has absolutely nothing to do with the changes the earth goes through.   

Common sense would kind of scream that at you everytime one goes to the ocean -- you think man can control or affect that incredible force of nature?  Of course not.

Using flashearth and google earth you can compare at least 4 different satalite images and a number of different years and seasons. Seems to me, the ice is growing. Hardly "secret", is it.
