Kaye Cowher, the wife of former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher, died Friday in North Carolina after battling skin cancer, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. She was 54.

The Cowhers, who met while both were student athletes at North Carolina State, were married in 1981, while Cowher was playing with the Cleveland Browns.

After playing basketball collegiately, Kaye Cowher went on to play in the Women's Professional Basketball League.

She is survived by her husband and daughters Meagan, Lauren and Lindsay.

That sux. Bill retired after winning the Super Bowl to spend time with his family and be around while his kids were growing up.

That heart breaking. My thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Cowher, his family, and friends.

Very few coaches and players retire right after winning a Super Bowl. Condolences to his family.
