Title: Favorite Food Network shows
Post by: jinxmchue on January 13, 2008, 09:51:27 PM
"Good Eats" and "Everyday Italian" (with the mega-hot Giada De Laurentiis) are my faves.

I like Good Eats and the Barefoot Contessa.  Everyday Italian is good, too.

On the flip show, which show can't you stand?  Rachel Ray makes me want to drive an ice pick into my ears.

LOVE: Giada (okay, she's friggin GORGEOUS!)
Paula Deen - she reminds me of women in my family and I get homesick watching her
"Feasting on Asphalt" and Alton's other show as well
Anthony Bourdain - he's not really on the Food Network is he? I think it's the travel channel. Anyway, he's comical and talented.

HATE: The Barefoot Contessa. Too pretentious. Her food is great. I can't stand her.
Rachel Ray. I'd like to choke her and smash her upside the head with a bottle of EVOO - YUM-O!!! Ugh. Raspy-voiced retard.

ON THE FENCE: Sandra Lee and Semi Homemade. I just read her bio so I kind of feel empathy towards her.

Iron Chef, Throwdown and that cake-making show.

I love all the shows, but if I had to pick favorites, I'd go with

Ace of Cakes, Unwrapped, Good Eats, and any show hosted by Paula Deen.  (I loved the holiday special with her and chef Robert Irvine... the banter was priceless :lmao:).

Ugh.  Yeah.  Ace of Cakes is my "cake-making show" above.  I hate it.

Anything with Paula Deen and Alton Brown.  I also like Unwrapped and the Naked Chef.

I hate Rachel Ray, I find her very annoying along with Giada De Laurentiis.

It took me a while to figure out that "Everyday Italian" was a cooking show.

I still have a difficult time catching everything she prepares.

(Just FYI, no, that's not me doing the commentary.)

The folks on that show can be obnoxious, but I just love to see what kind of cakes they make.

^That one guy on Ace of Cakes who talks so low and slow drives me insane. No matter what happens or how crazy it gets, he's speaking in a monotone and looks like he just took a bong hit. He's very talented and probably a really nice guy. I just think he's what most DUmmies look and sound like. I can't help it!!!

Like: Barefoot Contessa; Everyday Italian; Cooking Light with Ellie Krieger and Paula Deen.  I like Anthony Bourdain, now on Travel Network, but will be doing a show in FNC as well soon.

HATE: Rachel Ray and Bobby Flay

The other shows are okay...I'll watch them if nothing else is on.

Oh how I LOVED watching Bobby get beaten on a BBQ edition of his show "Throwdown!"  :lmao:

I think the sucker gets beaten on a majority of those show-downs...in fact, that's the only reason I watch the show....to watch him get beat.. :jerkit:

I don't like Ingrid Hoffman (Simply Delicioso) - she grates on my nerves.

I like pretty much everyone else on Food Network as far as personalities.  As far as favorite recipes, I'd have to say Guy Fieri is probably my favorite but I've tried and liked recipes from the others as well.  I got a Bobby Flay cookbook for my birthday and I'm really intrigued in trying a few of his recipes.

Can't wait for that new show, The Neely's!  Saw them on one of Paula Deen's shows, I bet they'll have good recipes!

I like to watch "30-Minute Meals".  I think Rachel Ray is OK, for a cooking show lady.  I've learned a few tricks from Rachel.  I have certainly been able to get my urge to overcook food in check.  Yum-o

I think Rachael Ray is one of the least intimidating people on Food Network.  To a beginner like me, she's very "if I can do this, there's no reason you can't do this".  I've made a few of her recipes and they were easy and tasted pretty good.

I could already cook, but cooking was always a production.  I watched Rachel, and now cooking is just a sideshow.

I do now cook just about everything using broth or stock instead of water and it makes a big difference.  I cook my last meat loaf in my muffin pan, and it was ready in about half the time - and they looked great too.  It's the little things like that.

Yep, and I'll never cook mashed potatoes out of a box as long as I live because of Food Network.  It's so much tastier to make them from scratch and there's so many ways to make them!  I love mashed potatoes made with roasted garlic, and the wife likes the sofrito style that Guy Fieri makes.

Ahh, you were making them out of a box!  My mom taught me how to make mashed potatoes when I was probably 10 and I've never used the box.  It's easy to make them from scratch.  I like original style, just some butter, cream (I usually have half & half in the house), salt and pepper.
