Imagine if George Bush had "closed" FEMA.

We'd still be hearing about it.

Hey now, you know government workers really care about people.....they just can't be inconvenienced while doing it.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

What's surprising is how unprepared FEMA was, knowing this storm was coming and what to expect.  Wasn't FEMA put under DHS?  Where's Napalitano?  Blooming idiot and even Pataki sound useless.

A lot of good American-owned companies are reaching out to help. My favorite is the company that is giving away free trees to anyone who had their yard damaged by Sandy, Fast Growing Trees Nursery. Legit deal and it's STILL going on. Some people never forget. http://www.fast-growing-trees.com/ShadeTrees.htm

I talked to a couple of women last week from Staten Island and one last night from Brooklyn. Brooklyn didn't have any damage, but both SI women did.

They are not happy campers up there. Thoroughly disgusted with FEMA and said they are getting more help from people who are living up there and volunteering to help than from government. Brooklyn said last night that she  has neighbors who don't have power yet. She never lost hers. She said she didn't know how she got so lucky.
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

FOX is still covering the disaster left by Sandy.  I heard the same things about how FEMA and the government have been almost useless.  A woman on F&F this morning said there was still no organization, no plan and no communication.

Same reason most of the Marines were pulled out. They were doing tons of free work that would have otherwise been gone to various labor groups for a price.

Interesting how unions want to make money from other peoples troubles.  :hammer:

We also weren't allowed to help fly stuff around forever because each time FEMA used us, they had to pay us from their budget. And we all know they weren't giving up their dollars even if it meant someone in Rockaway was cold for the night. After all, FEMA has their generators setup first. They'll worry about how to get stuff into these areas in the morning. Or maybe three mornings from now.

Just an FYI re: sending away non-union workers.  It was traced back to an Alabama paper and there is no truth to rumor.  There were multiple sources on the denial, governmental, union and utility company.  The good folks of the devastated areas (of which I was one until recently [a good folk]), would have strung up anyone who would have prevented the return of power, water or gas.

It was not a rumor, a misunderstanding maybe.
