BREAKING NEWS —  Insurgents have captured an American soldier in eastern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said Thursday.

Spokeswoman Capt. Elizabeth Mathias said the soldier went missing Tuesday.

"We are using all of our resources to find him and provide for his safe return," Mathias said.

Mathias did not provide details on the soldier, the location where he was captured or the circumstances.

Prayers for him and his family.  Hope they find him and take care of those who perpetrated this.

Rather near to Kabul, not down in the Taliban stronghold areas in the southwest, it is just as possible that this was a criminal kidnapping with an eye on ransom (or selling to the highest bidder) as it was a jihadist action.  Guess we'll see.

If it was me I'd let them know that they turn him loose or we start shooting any taliban in sight till we get him back.

Or he went over the hill!

It's happened once, IIRC, but it ain't real friggin likely, given that pretty much everyone knows what befalls those who fall into the wrong hands.

What happened to his battle-buddy?
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."
