56??? She is a newly certified teacher at 56 years of age??  And has no other job skills to fall back on.  Oh, I feel SO sorry for her.   :lmao:

Man, and I bitch about paying $24 a month for telephonic service (land-line).

She may have gotten her certificate renewed after not teaching for many years. I myself am a newly certified teacher at 46, after 22 years of not teaching.

We have one tv, and one computer, that we paid for with cash when my husband's mother died three years ago.
We were replacing a 12 year old TV that was no longer functioning properly, and a 10 year old computer doing the same. And we hope to not need to replace either for another 10-12 years.

Poor, poor, stupid DUmmy. No fancy new widescreen TV. No new Blu-ray player.

She should start supporting socialism, and claim a disability.

More then a couple DUmmies noticed the same thing so she had to embellish the story.

If she was paying $80 a month, she was getting a Hell of a lot more than local phone service.  While I was in Savannah that was approximately the price of the DSL/Unlimited intezone long distance/unlimited local service package (Only thing it didn't include was intrazone LD).

And as many have noted, if all you need is 911, you really don't have to pay anything.

What the hell is poor in today's world.   Anyone ever see pictures of the folks headed to California at the time of the dust bowl ?

Abe Lincoln, in a log cabin reading by the light of the fire, candle light cost to buy or make.

Even the wealthiest of American back in time, no inside plumbing, no Central heat, nearest doctor 20 miles away by horse back.    Say these were the wealthy, wonder how the poor lived back then.?

Nuts, the poorest of us is wealthy beyond the poor of the past.   Even the homeless can find shelter from the elements today if they wish, some are very happy living under bridges and sleeping over heating grates in card board boxes.    These are not the poor, this is a chosen for what ever reason a life style that suites them.

So as long as one has the basics of life, food clothing and shelter, how can they call themselves poor???  Freedom to come and go as they wish, freedom to believe or not in a religion, these people have wealth beyond the imagination of the people in some  parts of the world.

Poor is sitting on the street in a foreign nation with a cup begging for rice.  It is not sitting in shelter with running water, heat and AC, food stamps and bitching that their cable Company is too expensive.

Darn, help those who help themselves, the slug leaches are SOL, not our problem, that is theres to handle.

Churches take heed, one thing to help and another to encourage this behavior.

Well she is a DUmmie, but I have to agree with you.

I have an unlimited family plan with two of my sons on it and still is under $100 a month.

One just needs to shop around to find the best deals.  When they threaten to increase my rates, I threaten to take my business elsewhere.  So far no rate increase in 2+ years.

I came across some of my first pay checks in 1965, after taxes and health insurence were taken out I neted $50.00 a week.

Hmmm...in my bundle the phone was the cheapest part of the bundle. I'm calling  :bs: unless she's not accounting for long distance calls every month since they have no LD plan on it.

AH but you forget the goodies here.     Back in the 1970's early the Navy was giving re-up bonuses to those in the sub service that in some cases topped $5,000 for an E5 and more for the E6.

Base Housing in Honolulu 1969, off base housing, a 3 bedroom home with huge Lani, fully furnished, all utilities.
I forget what the housing allowance was back then but it had to be less then $175 PM.  Halsey Terrace Chief Housing.

Commissary benefits, free medical for family,  On base movies, bowling, swimming pools, Gee dunks, library's, Clubs --EM, Chief and Officers club, liqueur stores, gas, and access to the best beaches under military controll on that island.  Forgot to mention the family cars or trucks were boat shipped both ways free.  Air fare and all stand by for those in an emergency to fly home.

Sure was a shock when Hubby went Mustang and left the boats.   Loss was Hazard pay, Officers mess had to pay for their own food, a 7 month cruse in food costs can be a pain in the ass for Warrent Officers and the young Ensigns the baby's that lived in fear or worshipped the Chiefs that kept them alive and their ship/boat afloat.

Travel pay for intire family and all belongings included to head cross country, run into problems--pick up a dead horse along the way.  A THA  temporate housing Allowance, for the family for 6 months when off the Mainland .

Military lodges for active and retired at $5.00 a night back then, [ About 5 years ago Mom and I went for 4 days in Washington DC.  I believe the cost was $25.00 pn and as she had her dependents card for life I stayed as a guest for free].

All this stuff is still avable if one knows where to look for it, At the time and to this day few family's take advantage of their benefits, Most may not know about all the benefits or ignore them.

Benefits are not taxable just the cash pay, and at that time, I do not know what the rules are today military had to still pay state taxes in the state they enlisted in.   Automobiles, trucks, motorcycles registered to the base skipped town taxes and huge registering fees at least in VA.

Single or a family person in 1984 in the military had no reason to bitch, Cash pay was low but the benefits if they used them worth 4 times the cash.

Youth does not realise when they have it made in the shade, they give up great carears for a civilian job that pays twice but has no nontaxable  benefit.

Today if Hubby were asked to work for $10,00 a year with free housing, utilities, and all the benefits of living on a base, he would trip up the guy in front of him.    For benifits in Hawaii ------Blood on the moon.
