Post your sequester horror stories here.
« on: March 03, 2013, 03:11:51 PM »
Looks like the Mayans were off by a couple of months, the world did not end on Dec 21, 2012, instead it ended on March 1st 2013. All in all I would say they were still pretty accurate since they made the predictions a long time ago and being off about 4 months is a rounding error.

Anyway since the world has now come to an end because of these super mega draconian budget cuts by the federal government I would like for all of us to post our horror stories here, assuming the internet doesn't come crashing down in the next few minutes.

Two things that I have noticed so far, 1: I noticed that the gas gauge in my truck is almost on E. It was at about half a tank a week ago so I'm guessing the sequester siphoned my gas. 2: I drove by Chik Fil-A today and they were closed. I also noticed every bank in town was closed so the sequester must have brought down the financial and the "chiken" market.

Oh wait I just made another horrifying discovery, I bought 2 big bags of Peanut M and Ms last Friday and today one is gone and the second one is about half gone. Damn this sequester!

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

We went shopping all around Nashville yesterday.  I started out with over half a tank of gas.  When I got home it was less than a quarter tank.  We are screwed.

I also noticed the post office wasn't open today or yesterday.  I am scared.

Holy crap I better check and see if the Post Office is closed here too.

This is worse than I thought, and to think I was one of those deniers.

My postman didn't show up today and when I went to the donut shop this morning they all had their centers cut out.  Now I'm afraid what I'll find when I go to the market.

I just left Walmart.  They had cheese with holes in it, calling it Swiss Cheese or something.  I am mortified.

I went to the grocery store yesterday and they were out of wonder bread and twinkies.

This is worse than I thought.

Travel to a manufacturer for acceptance testing of a new measuring machine has been denied due to the restrictions on travel.  This was required by the contract awarded.

Aircraft to be inducted for march have been postponed till further notice

Anything that costs more then $100 requires Department Head approval, anything over 3,000 requires CO/XO approval.  I know that two jet engine test cells are down at this time due to having their parts denied for purchase.

End of the world as we know it.

Not even close to the end.

The CR is as close to the end for the Navy though.

The fact I can lose 20% of my salary this year is bad enough for me.   The effect of the furlough will cause my area alone approximately 95 million for the year.

I wish I could take all 22 days at once, I can find something to supplement me.   One day a week not really as easy.

Forgive my ignorance, but are you claiming that 22 days of furlough is 20% of your pay?

When I got laid off in 2009, I was making about $70K per year.  I found another job several months later making about $41K per year.  I found a way to survive.  I am confident that you will too.

I honestly am not understanding the furloughs.
The budget cuts are cuts in the rate of growth, not an actual cut in the budget.
I think that the furloughs are only being done to give the optics that this whole thing is super mega ginormous cuts.
It looks to me that civilian contractors and federal workers are being used in order for 0bama to be able to point at the repukes and say that they did this to you.

Yeah it is intimidation. Just like everything else from the past 4 years it is all nothing but a big lie.
The low information voters eat it up like it was welfare cheese then go to the ballot boxes every 2 years and beg for more.

I have a high school classmate that retired from the Navy and was always very conservative. He now works for the SBA and he loves all things Obama in an "in the closet" sort of way. He is a huge defender of our big government now and he thinks we need to cut military spending. I think I need to kick his ass.

Yes, the 22 days are 1day per week. That actually reduces my years salary by 20%.  I will survive, though it may become difficult.

We are pawns.

The DoD has been under a continuing resolution since jugears became Cinc.

I can only speak for the Navy,  we're billions under the requested amounts .  On March 1 we now have to cut billions more, and the damn CR expires march 27.

My prediction is by mid week some grand bargain will be reached and you won't miss any work.

I don't see that happening without a budget passed.

It will be another CR that kicks the can down the road once again. Then in 6 months or however long it is, we will rinse and repeat.

There probably will not be an actual budget until Barry is back in Hawaii on the golf course permanently.
