2013: #04 Top DUmmie (Locut0s)
« on: December 28, 2013, 10:55:00 AM »
Congratulations to Locut0s, the LocoNuts or locust primitive, for winning #04 Top DUmmie of 2013!

As with the preceding winner, this is his first appearance in the top DUmmies.

I’d thought the locust primitive was a reasonably junior primitive, given that he sprung into prominence only this past year, but apparently he’s been around a few years, as shown by his first two appearances in the Dumpster:

[Rant] How the fu*k can the election be where it is and how can there be any "undecided"??

First I'm Canadian

Second Ok yes I know what the answer is I'm not actually looking for a real reply but **** these last 8 years have been SURREAL!!!

Again how the **** can the US electorate still be fairly evenly balanced on this issue?? I mean lets just forget Obama entirely for the sake of this argument. Behind door number 1 we have Obama. Behind door number 2 we have a man representing the party that destroyed the world! WAKE UP PEOPLE we aren't talking about a presidency that raised taxes a bit too much here, spent a bit too much here. We are talking about a presidency that broke just about every ****ing rule in the book of democracy. Lied about getting into a war that killed thousands of innocents, check. Signed away fundamental inalienable freedoms (the very freedoms they said the terrorists hate us for), check. Set the country back socially decades, check. Collaborated with big oil companies and other special interest groups to help the rich and **** over the poor, check. Used 9/11 to emotionally manipulate the US and the world to do their bidding, check. Sat idly by while one of their own cities was raised to the group by a natural disaster, while at the same time giving orders to raise someone else's cities to the ground in another country, check. Accelerated the destruction of the environment exactly at a time when world consensus was coming to a head to do something significant for it, check. Through lack of action and a culture of ultimate greed brought world financial markets crashing in a scene we haven't seen since the great depression, check. Saddled this generation, the next, and god knows maybe the next after that with enough debt and global political unrest for 10 presidencies to deal with, check.

Given this shit list it's hard to conceive that anyone would be left in that camp, instead we have them neck and neck! The dems should be able to elect just about any Joe Blow they could think of choosing for a candidate. Instead we have the opposite, the repugs have Joe Blow (and miss Joe Blow) and the dems have one of the most eloquent orators, leaders, in a generation or more. And STILL it's neck and neck (or close too).

I pornography a regular part of your life?

I'm not talking about working in the industry I'm talking about regularly watching it. I'm not trying to oppose or advocate it just curious where people here stand. I know I've asked on other forums and quite regularly find that more than 40% of people watch some form of porn on a daily basis (i'll admit to being in this group ). How about here?

The locust primitive is 32 years old, and still lives with his parents in Vancouver, British Columbia; his paternal ancestor is of European derivation, and his maternal ancestress of eastern Asian derivation.

Anyone here come from extended families where money has ****ed things up?

My father and one brother are solid middle class and left wing. His other two brothers are upper middle to upper class and solid right wing. Over the years relations between the two sides have degraded to the point where it's just a game of showing off for those who have money. Money now equates with love, devotion, you name it.

His two rich uncles tried to corner us a while back with a deal to help their ailing parents. Essentially it came down to "our plan is to put them in an upscale home. We split this 4 ways between the brothers. If you can't come up with the $500 a month then you don't love your parents as much as we do. Step up to the plate and do your family duty". One brother sent an angry letter saying as much in other words.

In the end we brought my grandparents over here (cross country) and arranged facilities that they could afford using their own savings. The two sets of brothers don't talk to each other much any more.

America is scaring me again.

To think that the US is on the verge of going back on the first signs of progress I have seen in over 10 years is really very frightening. 8 years of Bush not only embroiled the world in 2 dangerous and unnecessary wars but brought the world to the brink of a global depression (word I still out as to whether we have managed to escape that one yet). And lets not forget the wholesale scrapping of social and political freedoms, the open racism, the free flowing hate.

Much of this has continued unabated under Obama as well, but for ONCE in over a decade we started to see the US SLOWLY claw its way out of the dark hole it had dug itself. It was slow and painstaking and the gains that have been made have not been without compromises and setbacks, some wins smelling almost more of defeat than victory. I wouldn't call Obama the beacon of hope that everyone had been praying for, he's a politician much like any other. BUT for once we DID start to see progress in the right direction.

Now only 2 years into this slow and painful recovery the US seems to be on the verge of throwing it all away a second time. Maybe I see things through tinted glasses viewing things from up here in Canada but the Tea Party and much of it's following seem hard to distinguish from Fascists at times. I hope that in the long run that sanity will win out but that's not the direction I see things headed in. Some times, times like these, America scares me.

He finally began hitting his stride in early 2012, although it wasn’t until this year that he shone:

I quit my job due to anxiety/depression.

Probably the 7th or 8th time I've quite or dropped out of school due to this. I've felt worst in the past but things aren't all that good now either.

I'm looking for some kind of grocery store clerk type position or just stocking shelves in the mean time. My last job was retail sales related as well but it was computer hardware which is much more my type of things but the customer interaction and 1 hour commute each way was driving me crazy. A few years back when I was on some medication that was working and things looked really up I was working at a 7-11 as assistant manager / acting manager.

I'm on medication and see a psychiatrist, also have referral to a different therapist and group therapy group. I'm registered to go back to school this coming Sept and hope that by then things are better. They will have to be if I'm to take on the course load I have lined up. I HAVE to get myself some type of degree or another moving forward though. I'm living at home with my parents at 30 and they are about to retire soon so I NEED to get my own life started, or crash and burn trying. Would help me if I could get some friends or a girl friend but I've never managed to even get close to a girl let alone date. At least I have my smarts going for me and I've managed to save up about $70k in the past several years.

I hate how confidence means everything in our society.

Getting ahead in life is all about confidence. Getting a job, relationships, friendships, success, it all rests on a solid bedrock of confidence. Those with a lot of it generally face far fewer difficulties, and those that they do face they quickly overcome or brush aside. Certainly intelligence and innate talent play a role in life but it's depressing how little it can matter in the end.

A general / chronic lack of confidence in life immediately closes SO many doors to you that automatically open for others. Just think of what it takes to get a job. You have to be good a selling yourself both on paper, resumes and cover letters, and in person, interviews. I won't say that experience doesn't matter here, it certainly does, but so much of that can be overcome and compensated for with a confident assured delivery. On the flip side the candidate with the perfect resume who comes across as shy and unsure of him/herself will shoot themselves in the foot.

The same concept applies to countless other situations in life, not just jobs. For those of us suffering from life long depression and anxiety issues it can be just a maddening truth to deal with at times.

What do you do for a living?

Simple question. How do you make your living, assuming you have a job. If not then why, how long have you been out of work. Thought it would be interesting to get an idea of the demographics here on DU.

As for me, I'm 30 and a student right now, not working. Previously I've had a few retail jobs, assistant manager at a 711 for 4 years and I worked at a computer retail outlet for a year or so. Before that more school.

And then this, from franksolich on April 8, 2013:

Damn, it's so hard to find good material on Skins's island the past several days. The primitives are obsessed, really obsessed, with Massa Barry tinkering with social security, as if it's the only thing that matters.

Even my good pal MannyGoldstein's gone over the edge.

"THE WORLD'S COMING TO AN END! THE WORLD'S ENDING! DISASTER! CATASTROPHE! DEVASTATION! RUIN! COLLAPSE! THE END OF HUMANITY! THE END OF IT ALL! THE GOTTERDAMERUNG! THE WORST DISASTER IN ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY! THE WRECK OF THE GRAVY TRAIN! THE EXTINCTION OF MANKIND! DOOM! DEATH! DESTRUCTION! CALUMNY! CATACLYSM! SCOURGE! OUR CALVARY! OUR VIA DOLOROSA! THE END OF CIVILIZATION AS WE KNOW IT! THE END OF HUMANITY AS WE KNOW IT! THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!"

Geezuz fudging chris, the primitives are berserk.

But among all that noise and clamour, hysteria and paranoia, I did find this uplifting campfire:

Short of suicide which I'm not going to do I don't know what else to do.

My life is a ****ing mess. I'm on the verge of passing this semester at university and i don't think I'm able too. I could become a janitor or something and frankly I wouldn't mind that but I'd be letting everyone else and I suppose myself down. Anyway I don't have the energy to say more.

Do you identify with your user name? Do you use it elsewhere? What does it stand for?

I've been using Locut0s now for, damn I can't even remember how long. Probably shortly after I started using the web and discovered message boards, must be at least 12 -15 years now. It's pretty much the only user name I use and it's become something of a 2nd name for me, I truly identify with it. Occasionally I'll use something different if I want total anonymity, since I use Locut0s on so many other sites, or if the name is already taken. even when it's taken I usually use something close.

The name originates from Star Trek TNG, it's the name Picard is given by the Borg when he is assimilated to become their spokesperson, though there it's spelled Locutus, I think that spelling was taken so I substituted a zero in place of the u when I first created the nick. Despite the strong trekkie vibe I'm not quite a trekkie, well I've seen every episode of every series so I guess that might qualify me lol. But I've never been to a convention, never dressed up as a character, nor have any merchandise.

Bullshit. LocoNuts reached that destination years ago.

He might be a candidate for your 2014 dead pool, but we'd have a problem learning of his demise.

He lives amongst polar bears and totem poles, ice hockey and back bacon, LaBatt's and walleyes.

News doesn't percolate through that wilderness and on down into civilization very easily.

I always considered the locust primitive a lightweight; hardly anything in him.

But unlike with the subway cat and Dennis the Menace, both of whom are now apparently gone away from Skins's island, I hope he works at it.

The subway cat and Dennis the Menace never, really, should've been on Skins's island to begin with, given their vulnerabilities--and hence one's relieved they're gone, for their own good--but the locust primitive's different from them; he's so removed from reality that nothing appears to bother him, to discombobulate him.

A few months ago, he went into the nuthatch forum and deleted every post he'd made for months and months.

No explanation, just a mass delete. Some of his work can be pretty funny.

I've only been here a little over a year, so I don't have that much experience with them.   A lot of the DUmmies talked about I never knew, and many are referred to by nick names which makes it confusing. Last year I didn't vote, because I really didn't know any of them.

Some DUmmies intrigue me, some I find uninteresting and don't pay much attention to, some I don't like at all and some I sort of feel sorry for.  But whatever my reasons were for voting for them, I'm not doing too badly.   :)

I'd hate to see the pilgrim primitive disappear, myself.

Like the locust primitive, even though he's nuts, he can somehow hold his own against bullying primitives ostensibly saner than he is.

But some nuts are softer, and shouldn't be on Skins's island.  They're too vulnerable.

And so franksolich has a confession to make here.

- - - - - - - - - -

Sometimes the primitives accuse decent and civilized people of "chasing" some of their fellow primitives away.

The addlepated grasswire primitive is the chief among them, with all her silly accusations about franksolich doing in the late red round one, and shoving the hippywife primitive Mrs. Alfred Packer away.

Which is nonsense.  I won't comment on the disappearance of the late red round one, but I will point out that it was hippyhubby Wild Bill who forced Mrs. Alfred Packer to leave Skins's island, because he was jealous of all the attention she was giving the cooking and baking primitives; attention he thought she should be paying him.

franksolich at no time hindered, obstacled, or prevented Mrs. Alfred Packer from hanging around with the primitives; in fact, such would've been stupid, given the rich quality of light entertainment and amusement the hippywife primitive provided the DUmpster.

There is however one exception, where franksolich actively and vigorously tried chasing a primitive away.

I could never do anything about the subway cat, who didn't belong there either, as she was too firmly entrenched until her loving caring sisters had her put away last September, but when Dennis the Menace showed up a few years ago, since he was still new, I could.

The first time I read him, I thought, "Uh oh.  This guy doesn't belong here.  He's nuts, and he's going to embarrass himself, make himself look like a fool, and certain malicious primitives are going to take advantage of his vulnerabilities....."

It was so long ago probably nobody remembers any more, but at first, I came down really hard on him, so as to discourage him from hanging around the primitives.  I was mean, I was rough, I was tough, with him.

It did no good however, and so over time I lessened the pressure, ultimately giving up.

My motives were wholly decent and noble; he didn't belong there, and he was going to hurt himself hanging around.  He had to be driven somewhere to get competent psychiatric help.

I dunno what finally chased him away, but as I constantly reminded him, he could be one thing or another thing; he could be either sane, or a primitive.  He couldn't be both at the same time, just one thing or the other thing.

<<<a sterling example of purity of purpose, of Nobility, of watching out for one's fellow man, especially those weak and vulnerable.

Congratulations to Thomas for his #4 finish!  If we are lucky, he will imbibe on a celebratory fifth of grain alcohol, and post at the DUmp until he slips into unconsciousness.

I had him as my #2 pick, but I guessed he would finish at #4.  I've got my fingers crossed on my last three guesses.

I can tell you right now, it will be Lady Freedom Returns checking in at #3, and then a close contest between Doug and Nadin for the top prize. I'm thinking it will be DB. Nadin is a constant, kind of like a whirring wind turbine on the hills outside San Diego. But what Doug did this year was historic. It will live on in the lore of DUmmiedom forever.

What?--no predictions about the wild card, the CCA, which is to be awarded next?

Well, I'm hoping, HOPING it's Skippy.  Ever since you pointed out his Calpiggish tendencies, I haven't been able to ignore them.
