Title: Dear Editor RE:firing of IG
Post by: 5412 on June 17, 2009, 06:58:56 AM
Dear Editor:

When the president was a senator he co-sponsored a bill that said if the executive branch wants to terminate an inspector general, they must give congress 30 days notice and the reason why.  The intent was to keep the Inspector General's office independent so they could be the watchdog over seeing that our tax dollars are not squandered or mis-used.

Then, on Monday, it comes to light that a long time Inspector General had discovered that the Mayor of Sacramento, a friend of the president, had mis-used quite a bit of government money for personal use and the IG stepped in to be sure that he did not get any more.  His boss, another political hack, negotiates a settlement where the mayor had to pay back some of that money that was misappropriated.  Then the white house called the IG and told him he had one hour to either resign or be fired....clearly in violation of the law which the president was co-sponsor of.

Where is the outrage?  Where is the article about this abuse of power?  Seems one cannot find one in any of the local papers.

Clinton fires several US attorneys and the press says that it is clearly within his rights, no problem.  Bush fires a couple and they scream for a congressional investigation and every major newspaper in the country screams about his political abuse of power.

The president fires and Inspector General, clearly violates the law and is an abuse of power.  More importantly he has now politicized the IG's office and will hamper other inspectors from doing their job protecting our tax dollars.  Why is there no screaming in the senate for an investigation?  Why is there no outrage in the press, which would in turn inform the public and cause more outrage?  If Bush had done this they would be calling for him to be impeached.

When I was a kid I recall learning that the freedom of the press was so the media could become an watch dog......seems to me when it comes to liberal politicans they are more like lap dogs.....

I would so steal that and send it to my local paper......but they might be outta print before I could do it.

Just got the Wednesday edition of our triweekly paper and it is one section only.... :rotf: .......and a handful of advertising papers. They are furloughing people one day a week because of their subscription rates being down. The lower they sink the more liberal they become......and then wonder what's happening.

You letter is well-written, informative, and cogent.  This is a REAL crime and it deserves to not be ignored.

Hi,

Thanks, it is indeed a terrible abuse of power.  Kind of like what does Saddam Hussein and Barak Hussein have in common?  They can do whatever they can and make up the law as they go along.

Which is exactly why the state-controlled media - as Rush calls the propagandist bastards - will do exactly that: IGNORE IT.

Hi again,

Well I got a call from the newspaper today. I had sent them a letter last week about Palin and they said they were going to print it Friday. I asked them about the letter I sent today and they said it is their policy to only print a letter once every 30 days for an individual to give others a chance to have their views shared and printed. I then asked why their newspaper did not cover the story..........dead silence........she had no idea.  I think you are right on when you said IGNORE IT.
