I am having problems with swelling hands and my arms going numb

My doc has done alot of bloodwork, testing me for kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and other stuff, but he hasn't made any diagnosis. I do not eat alot of salt and it seems to be the worst when I am lying down in bed and right when I wake up in the morning.

My back aches, too, but not bad enough to suspect a spinal injury or something like that. I am 29 years old and the swelling/numbing makes me quite achy and it seems to be worsening. Any physicians in the house that might have a clue what is wrong with me?

Now, that's really funny, the bold area, above.

12. You might see a vascular surgeon

I had some of those symptoms in my LEGS and the problem turned out to be PAD (peripheral artery disease) which means clogged arteries.

My only qualification is that I've had lots of diseases.

I just thought that there was someone who might have the same kinds of ailments I do and that they might share how they deal/cope/treat themselves.

14. I can think of a dozen things it could be but it sounds like your doctor is pursuing it in the most rational manner, starting with the least invasive investigation first.

Just realize it's probably going to take some time to nail this one down if your blood work didn't show anything.

9. Ha! That's really funny. 

Doctor and Duck, Quack! applies to both  Although one says it, the other is sometimes said to be it. That's funny.

Just another way to look at things.

Edit: I don't give things like this relevance, to much interpretation, but it is funny how things can line up to make funnies.

To the OP, I hope you find out what is bothering you, its not fun to feel bad. Maybe some potassium/salt balance thing, low potassium can cause cramps in muscles.

7. Have you had your thyroid checked?

Just in case. Hypothyroidism can be a cause of hand swelling.

It could be a circulatory problem as well, perhaps a blockage of the axillary vein, also something called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, which is an anatomical problem that causes reduced circulation.

Do you have swelling in the armpits? That could point to a lymphatic problem.

Something is causing this and it sounds like your doc might not have the special skills a circulatory specialist would have to get a good diagnosis. It could be something simple or it could be something more complex. But don't wait to get a good diagnosis. If your doc can't make a diagnosis then any treatment is shooting in the dark.

15. Sounds like a circulation problem.

I have the same aches also and my doctor said it is a circulation problem. My feet turn blue if I do not have them propped up. The blood is getting to my toes, but will not go back to my heart and brain. My toes actually look like Japanese eggplants.

Oh My Obama! There are literally hundreds of ailments that can cause those symptoms, not the least of which could be weight, inactivity, low sodium, poor diet, or drug interractions. It also could be as simple as sleeping incorrectly. I couldn't believe the OP when asked if they had been worked up for a cardio they said not that they knew. Uhhhhh, yeah. They are a bizarre bunch though, aren't they? DU would be the LAST place I would go for medical help.
