Ask an Iranian anything!
« on: October 25, 2011, 04:13:22 PM »
Hey guys, ITT you may ask me (an Iranian) anything about Iranian geopolitics, culture, history, etc.. or just general questions, I don't like to take personal questions very much though. I was going to attach a picture of an Iran and America flag together but I couldn't find any with the Lion and Sun on it.

I don't live in Holland but I use my e-friends VPN server which he has stationed there (he's not Dutch though), most American websites are blocked in Iran, majority of Iranians in my opinion use VPN to access the web for basic things, if not VPN then TOR or HTTP/SSL Proxy. Why do you ask?

If a fly is going to land on the ceiling how close does he have to get before he turns upside down?
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Nice pictures of the grand and glorious Persian pre-islamic days. So, what grand and glorious things has Persia done post-islamic invasion.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Hmmm, well in the Safavid period there was a revival in Iranian culture, but the Safavids were more Iranian than Muslim and they were kind of secular. Some of the dynasties and empires after the Islamic world shifted from Arabic culture to Persian culture weren't too bad but they had worse laws than in the earlier Sassanid times. I would say the benefit of the Islamic invasion was that Iran managed to get a bigger link with the Indian, Phoenician, Egyptian, Greek world. During the Achaemenid times Iran was probably one of the few centers of freedom in the Middle East, compared to Greece Iran was light years ahead in human rights, even Herodotus chose to spend some time under the Achaemenid empires borders, and obviously no Islamic dynasty has ever been able to re-capture that freedom.

Iraq is an artificial created country like many Near Eastern countries. I believe that Iraq was carved up by the British. The British forgot to create a Kurdistan as well, which was pretty stupid; the countries in the Middle East that are not artificial are only Turkey (reformed and carved up by Turks after the collapse of the Ottoman empire) and Iran (lost some battles to the Russians in the Qajar era and thus lost the northern territories like Armenia and Azerbaijan as well as lost some eastern areas that are now part of Afghanistan but that was with the British).

My understanding is that the French had a good bit to do with that, though of course not as much as the Brits, who regarded the whole area as their sphere of influence due to the proximity of India and a perhaps a certain desire to keep their traditional rivals, the Russians, as far from warm-water ports as possible.

Great pics, btw, thanks for putting them up.

I agree. On some other point with the relation of imperialism/colonialism I can say that the thing that initially destroyed Afghanistan was their rise to Communism/Socialism, but one can look at this two ways:
1. Afghanistan's rise to Communism/Socialism led way to the Islamist takeover (or made it more easy) of Afghanistan.
2. Afghanistan's invasion by the Soviets to support their Communist takeover as some authors have stated helped end the Soviet Union.

But would the world rather deal with the Soviet Union still existing or a moderate Afghanistan? I think the choice is clear.

What is your opinion of liberal (specifically American) talk radio.  Are you a fan of Mike Malloy?

What is your opinion of liberal (specifically American) talk radio and Mike Malloy?

I think its very much needed to have freedom of speech so I respect the liberal Americans and think it's good they have their own radios but I don't know much about them individually but wish to learn.

I just searched for Mike Malloy on Google search and am reading about him now.

From Wikipedia:
Politically, he describes himself as "a traditional Liberal Democrat doing his part to return the Democratic Party to its Liberal roots."

I don't understand what he means by liberal roots, did liberalism exist in the same way it does today? From my political science studies I know that classical liberalism (what he might be referring to) is very different than modern liberalism and I wonder how he feels about neoliberalism aswell.

Why did Constantinople get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks.

Not sure where the Iranians have anything to do with it.  But yeah, if our new friend is using Tor, he'll likely have a different IP every time he logs on.  Maybe he can ask the mullahs why he can't have open access to the Net.

Hello, and thanks for taking questions.

At what age do children start school?

Is attending school mandatory for all children?

How does a person get into a college or university?

And because I'm in agriculture...

Are there many cattle raised in Iran?

Is beef a commonly ate food?

Hi there! Let me try to give answer for all of these accurately and professionally.

At what age do children start school?

At 6 year old they begin.

Is attending school mandatory for all children?

I think it was before 1979 but I don't think anymore because I see many kids in poor parts of Iran that don't seem to goto school they just sell flowers all day.

How does a person get into a college or university?

They take the entrance exam.

Are there many cattle raised in Iran?

Is beef a commonly ate food?

Yes to both of these questions. Mostly in North Iran.

I love cows and cow meat!

Interesting picture.

I'm curious.  How did you find our site all the way from Iran?
