For those of you celebrating Chicago's loss.

We have lost 48,000 construction and hospitality jobs since 2007. I just wanted to go back to work.
There is no work in the construction sector right now. These are good paying jobs. So I guess I will be deciding on doing jingle mail to my mortgage holder, pulling my kid out of school, and saying goodbye to my beloved fur-babies.
I understand the arguments against it, I just needed to put food on the table.

51. Anybody who wanted the Olympics here in Chicago, doesn't understand politics.

The Daley machine and all his cronies are the ones who would make out. Us taxpayers would be
left holding the bag.

Sorry, don't want to pay more in taxes to fund some fat-cat wealthy friend of Daleys.
This DUmmie gets it.

12. Oh they are happy.

I don't get it. We need work. We are the people who will keep this economy going. When you have 3000 electricians out of work it does make an impact. Not to mention the numbers for the rest of the trades. We are talking 40 dollar an hr jobs here. Nothing to sneeze at.

I'm sure they can use the jobs in Rio.  They'll work for less though.

15. I don't give a rat's ass about why.

We need the work. Jobs, good paying ones at that. My post just addressed the gloating and happiness
by some who don't realize what it meant to the trades.

You mean the unions right?  How much of that money would have been kicked back to Daley and his cronies?

We are occupying Afghanistan.

By our own standard in 1980. We should not host an Olympics.

But it's the "good war", remember?

$40 dollars an hour to wire a light switch....hmmmmm...40x40=1600x52=$83,200

Who the hell needs a college education, that's a $332,800 in potential earnings  lost while you're smoking dope and drinking beer after a few football games.

I used to a lot of business in Chicago and had many dealings with the unions there.  The companies loved us because we could do anything without union help. However, one time for lack of tools, we needed an electrician to pull some wire for a machine.  This took over a day to get four wires pulled thirty feet. It was enlightening. The guy had to use two other different union guys because he was not allowed to this or that. This interface could take two hours before said specialist was available. Since we needed the union guy we were not allowed to assist. Bottom line, we had to work all night to get out on schedule. From then on I never asked for their assistance and would just go buy any tools necessary to do a job.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I (briefly) held a management position with a large company many years ago where my job was supervising the setup of latge, complex displays for public shows in convention centers at cities all over the country.....I can tell you "union stories" that will stand your hair on end........

I work in a motor repair shop, which is part of a larger company that includes an electrical service division.  By the unions rules, we are not allowed to change light bulp in any mounted fixtures, nor can we repair/replace outlets or cords on fixed equipment.  :banghead:

I once made the mistake at a trade show of plugging in an outlet strip and then connecting our equipment.  I caught a load of shit for that and then we had to wait several hours until a union electrician could come over and properly plug the outlet strip onto the outlet.

We were alowed to connect our equipment to the outlet strip but the strip had to be plugged into the wall by a union electrician.

So if a bulb burns out in your work area and the "electrician" is on his coffee break (or there isn't one on site), you're SOL?

I cannot imagine people getting anything done that way. Ayn Rand was right about this stuff. Just look at Detroit.

Reminds me of the IRS.  When we took over the family business, the IRS insisted on speaking only to my father-in-law.  Never mind that the company was never in his name, or that he'd passed away years before.  Took 15 months to get it through their pea brains.

So if a bulb burns out in your work area and the "electrician" is on his coffee break (or there isn't one on site), you're SOL?

That is exactly it. If you're working in a union shop, and the bulb illuminates your work
area, you are obligated to stop work until an electrician can be dispatched to replace the
burned out bulb. Screwing in a new bulb requires a skilled tradesman. And if there's a loose
screw coming out of your machine, you stop work until a mechanic can be dispatched.
You are never permitted to tighten a loose screw. And if there's dirt on the floor and a broom
in the corner, you have to call for a janitor. And on and on.

Those are just a few minor irritations in a union shop.

What an effing idiot EndersGame is.

He thinks the IOC should be scared of the teabaggers?  Oh yeah, they are a violent and raucous group of protesters.

EndersGame must be one heck of a wussy because I think I'd be more afraid of those Pittsburgh G20 protesters who were all dressed in black, hurling bombs at the cops, and breaking windows.  I guess EndersGame didn't happen to catch that video, either, of those gang members in Chicago that killed that kid with a railroad tie.

Yep, those teabaggers are a wild bunch that everyone should be afraid of.

When they shut down Hanford up here, there was an influx of union carpenters into the area. As we are a right to work state, our philosophy is pretty much "**** a buch of unions"! To say these guys were worthless is like sayin' Bush was revered and loved by the DUmmies.

I got more work outa 19 year old greenhorns than I ever did with union help, and I only payed 'em $12/hr! Still, I never paid any of those union assholes more than 16 bucks! They thought that was an insult until I proved to them the "kids" were out-working them 2 to 1!

Like I said, "**** a bunch of unions"!

edited for spelling. Kept hitting the "b" key instead of the "n"

Tea-baggers, right.  On the other hand, I'm sure the gangstas with their 'Community organizer' life support system of Government-subsidized crime, and a level of corruption that puts Naples to shame, aren't a concern to them all.
