"Soda" in NJ -- took my husband many, many years to switch from "pop" to "soda" (he's from NE Ohio).

Pop is an old man.
Soda is a cooking ingredient.
Coke is what we drink...regardless of the brand.

I call it soda, pop, or coke. I grew up on RC Cola, then drank Diet Rite, now only Diet Coke when I drink soft drinks.  Occasionally I do like to have a root beer.

Would you like something to drink?
Get me a coke.
What kind of coke?
Sprite.

That is the kind of conversation we have around here.

I was never allowed to drink RC after a RC truck T-boned my Granddad's Buick.
R.I.P. LC and Crockspot.  Miss you guys.

I can go with pop or coke. They are both generic terms for soft drink.

Anyone who objects to "coke" probably says "tissue" instead of "kleenex", or, god forbid, "cotton swab" instead of "q-tip".

Soda is still a chemical that you don't drink.

I've known quite a few people who called it "soda". They were all northeast moonbats.

Then I suspect you are in the minority among "soda" drinkers.
Also, welcome.
