Names removed to protect the innocent -- Is anyone in Washington DC paying attention to this.

"Dear xxxxx ,

Thank you for the time you invested in applying for the Administrative Specialist II opening with thexxxxxxxx Our staff have now completed their review of all 792 resumes we received. Unfortunately, they have determined you won't be among the nine candidates invited to interview.

I do wish I had better news to send you. Based on the high level of skills and experience possessed by each of the interviewees, it's clear the job market is extremely competitive right now. Again, we appreciate your interest in this position, and wish you well as you pursue your career goals."

Folks, my unemployment is about to run out. I have burned through my savings, and I expect if this keeps up, there is no happy ending for my family.

I do feel bad for this DUmmy if this is the truth.
I did notice however they aren't blaming Mr Hope n Change for this. If Bush was in office they would be calling for his execution.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

The one thing that stands out to me is the letter gives the number of applicants...I've never seen that before in any job I've applied for.  Ever.

I noticed the same thing.  I've never seen any company that I work for include that statistic, nor have I ever seen it in a rejection letter of my own.

I've never even seen a letter like this.  What you get instead is a silent telephone.  Postage is now $.49.  Add in paper, ink, signing, folding etc. and the cost would be astronomical just to tell 790 odd people No Thanks for a junior secretary job.  CEO, maybe.  Come on.  Definitely  :bs:

Honestly I can see a Fed civil service HR office doing that to make people feel better about not making the interview cut.  My own experience with civil service in DOD jobs is that they are too slow and confused to get 'Decline' letters out.  I understand that other government HR offices besides the ones I dealt with do make a much better effort on this, though.

I have applied for probably twenty different positions over my career, and have only received a 'Decline' letter once, telling me I didn't make the 'Best qualified' [Interview stage, usually] list, and then a week after reporting in to a new job that did tap me, I got a letter from the same place asking me in for an interview - they had apparently started over and based on the same applications and job announcement I had come out in the top three or four instead of in the basement.

DAT--not even in gub'mint service.  I applied for a job with BPA and aside from an e-mail acknowledging they got my package, I got NOTHING back.  Their loss.

Oh, and TVA was even worse.  I'll have to tell you that story sometime.  You'll end up just shaking your head.  I was all ready to move to Huntsville until their HR really turned me off TVA.

I supposed that's entirely possible for a government related position.  Not an area I'm not familiar with.

For the past ten years or so, I think HR departments have sent an e-mail to unsuccessful interviewees.
I have never heard of any business contacting people who sent a resume to tell them they are not being considered.
It just doesn't happen.
Every word of this DUmmy's post is a lie.

The wording seems off to me as well.  I wouldn't expect most HR departments to spend so much time stroking the egos of unsuccessful applicants.

The entire thread is an outstanding testament to Obamanomics.  Thousands of employers cut jobs when Teh Messiah was elected, and not all of them were affected by the auto or real estate industries.  Now, if you're lucky enough to get a job offer, it will be for roughly half what that employer was paying for the same position three years ago.  If you don't like it, they'll remind you that there are 791 other applicants who will.  As for the employees lucky enough to make the cut, they are likely now carrying the workload of two people for the same pay, also reminded of the 792 resumes stacked up on a desk in HR.

This is why we're seeing headlines like this:

Hard sale for retail businesses as struggles continue even as economy improves

I'd like to know whose economy is improving.  It sure as hell ain't mine.
