How do we counter this ignorant OR intentional shit?

I am not very good at verbal political arguments and this WILL come up where I live this election season....

In the crazy, topsy-turvy year of 2018, socialism is somehow on the rise in America. To those of us unfortunate enough to have been born in the Soviet Union, this is troubling.

The new socialists say it’s different this time. They have a new name and everything: “Democratic Socialism.”

Don’t buy it: It’s still based on the same old, failed redistributionist tenets as the old kind — the kind that gave rise to devastating failure in my family homeland.

The second-most famous Democratic Socialist in America right now, after kingmaker Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders, is New York City congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The newcomer does her best to explain the snake oil: It’s “the basic belief” that “in a m
oral and wealthy America . . . no person should be too poor to live in this country.”

The problem for me is countering the ridiculous argument without having to give a 5 minute brief on 'socialism,' which I couldn't do anyway...

And arguing against the falsehoods and garbage--

nordic countries

Again, it's all true.  All of those countries have either failed or are failing.  You can't argue against that because it's in the news almost everyday.

4. Specious Argument

The decrying of "redistributionist tenets" and then comparing it to the USSR is just silly.

The USSR just took ownership and control of everything. That wasn't a redistribution of wealth, it was full scale appropriation and maintenance of control was done through terror and intimidation.

Somehow i'm thinking those who promote democratic socialism have a different governmental construct than the Soviet Union had.

Good Lord these people are stupid.  These are the people that rail against the police and the military on a daily basis then post THIS?!

Here's a clue for you; NO, it WON'T be any different.  They will do the same thing that ALL communists/socialists do.  They will force you, at the barrel of a gun, to give them what you have so they can give it to someone else.  And it won't matter if you don't have enough to give them.  You, and your family, will suffer because the government will take whatever they want to give it to whom they deem worthy of it.

The reason socialism has failed everywhere else is obvious. They didn't plant enough money trees or raise enough geese that laid golden eggs or enough unicorns that fart natural gas and piss gasoline.

The new democratic socialists plan on doing all that to make it work.

I've already had a FB Trumpy quote this article to me, telling me that socialism is "poison." He believes Democratic Socialism is just another word for Communism (something this author alludes to). Trump saved America, and socialists will just take over all industry and give away all of their stuff to no-good poor people. Seriously, dude believes this.

Whenever I think of "socialists" and what their reaction would be to their creation I think of the Star Trek (TOS) episode "This Side Of Paradise."  Particularly the scene when the head of the colony tells Dr. McCoy (who is whiling away the hours snoozing and enjoying mint juleps) that there is no need for a doctor so it is time for him to do some real work.  His reaction -- great anger and the retort "Well, I think YOU will need a doctor in a few minutes."

That will be what happens when "socialists" like DUpipo and their new Pied Piperette asswipe occasional-cortex get "from each according to their abilities and to each according to their needs."

Different flavors of socialism, basically the same kinds of horrible results:

* USSR - purges, starvation, Gulags;

* China - purges, starvation, "re-education" camps;

* Cuba - purges, prison camps, economic ruin;

* Vietnam - purges, "re-education" camps;

* Zimbabwe - purges, race killings, economic ruin;

* Venezuela - economic ruin;

* Nicaragua - 1.0 purges, genocide; 2.0 economic ruin in progress;

* Ethiopia - starvation (and probably purges).

Just off the top of my head.

Socialism is not on the rise in America.

It is in its spasming death throes.

It's being wholly discredited as the stuff of fools and charlatans. This is all very much expected and necessary. Let them come out of the shadows so we can confront to their faces.
