I learned the sad news this morning on RO in a PM from tiny1 that samspade passed away recently. From tiny's PM:
Pete, I don't know if you are aware, but Samspade passed away. Don't have details, but I do know that he died from suspected heart related illness. ...
Tiny
sam didn't post here frequently, but he had been a member for several years. I know some RO-formers and current members are regulars here. Truly sad news.

Pete, I didn't know RO was back in business.

RIP Sam.
Pete, I didn't know RO was back in business.
JohnGalt brought it back online in early March, after a 4 month hiatus. Two days after doing so was the last time he logged on to RO. He needs to sell it to someone who can actually be there, administering the site and resolve its lingering weirdnesses.

Very saddened to hear.

Because another RO Mod posted some pertinent information, here is the RO thread about sam's death. (http://www.republicanoperative.com/forums/f13/rip-samspade-51692/)

Godspeed, samspade. Fair winds and following seas!

May he rest in peace.

I sent an email to the RO admin address over there stating that I wanted to post a death announcement and received no response. I then tried to register with a Temp name and never received a confirmation. So, I thank tiny1 for passing this along.

R.I.P Samspade
It must have been sudden. I knew that he had some health issues typical of someone on their late 60's. He had also developed some more serious heart related issues that seemed to be under control.
I had known Samspade as a Conservative ally on political forums since the late 90's. He frequented far more forums than I did. As the site that we were on, E-The People (gone for many years), descended into the screeching sewer of Bush Derangement Syndrome, we became strong forum allies. As that site went into full-blown echo-chamber decline, we would suggest other sites to each other and check them out. We eventually ended up here on CC.
I had hoped to meet him in person as we moved through the Chicago area on one of our family trips. Somehow, our schedules just never lined up. A lesson learned here is that there is never enough time but, somehow, we need to make such time. Samspade deserved a visit from me after the years that I had known him as a political forum ally across cyberspace for nearly 20 years. I failed him on that.
I had sent him emails after noticing that he dropped off of TPF and other sites that went unanswered. I finally searched on his name and found his obituary. It is below and has been redacted to eliminate ID info for him and his family. I know that he was very guarded with such info in open forums because, on one forum, there was a liberal/democrat/commie whackjob that would find ways to dig into your ID info and post it in open forums.
Redacted Obituary:
Samspade, age 69, passed away at his home on February 27, 2017. He was born on April 13, 1947 to his mother and his father. Samspade worked for Ace Hardware for many years before moving on to care for patients at a local Developmental Center. He was generous with his time and resources, and loved to share jokes with his family members. He found joy in debating his political views with the world on the internet. Samspade was an avid and self-taught computer user, and he went out of his way to learn everything he could about them. His handyman skills came in useful when fixing up his own home as well as the homes of friends and family members. He will be remembered for his frequent and hilarious use of the phrase, “I got up in there”. Samspade will be joining some family in the afterlife: FAMILY, FRIEND, AND LOCATION INFO REMOVED. Friends and family are welcome.
This obituary is also a vindication of all of the personal info about himself that he posted on this forum and many others. It lined up with just about everything that he has stated about himself over the years. I doubt very much that he wrote his own obituary.
My thoughts and prayers are with Sampade, his family, and friends. He was a great guy. I wish that I had known him even more so than I did.

Prayers for his friends & family.
