I never liked the velvet Elvis paintings either. But a lot of American homes have them. Everyone has different tastes. Kincade made a good living with his art, and now he's dead. As a progressive can you understand the grave dancing at DU?

@HNSparky - Yes a Virgin Mary defecated or a crucifix in urine has more meaning. It makes more of a statement because so many don't understand the artist's expression... I know it is Easter Sunday. But free speech protects art. Thomas Kincade had every right to sell his work. I just find it bland. I volunteer my time at a large art museum. I know what I like and Thomas Kincade I do not. I pray for his family at this time but I don't collect his work...

And I am a liberal. But being liberal is not why I don't like his art. I just find it bland...

I knew it. Some people just want something beautiful to look at, not some piece of "art" that has some hidden meaning, vulgar or not.  By the way "Piss Christ" isn't edgy, thought provoking or brave. It's a cowardly way to knock religion. I bet these same "artist" would never do a "Piss Mohamed", because when it comes right down to it, Liberals are pussies.

What statement does a cross in urine make? Liberals are so concerned about not offending anyone, yet they embrace an artist's act of bigotry, calling it art. He says, I don't understand the artists intent. I understand it perfectly. Progressives cannot distinguish between art and a hate crime.

Oh, we do understand the "artist's" expression.  And we vehemently disagree with it.  We also don't care to remove his free "speech" rights over it, but find it moronic that tax money supports this kind of "expression."  At least Kincade's work was decent enough to display in a home, wouldn't smell it up, earned him honest money, and cost those who didn't buy it nothing. That is far more than can be said for things like "Piss Christ."   ::)

For the record, I don't have any of his work. All the artwork I have, put up, are from obscure artists that I buy at Spoleto and hopefully, one day, will be worth more than I paid for them. "Piss Christ" isn't art. It's a mental illness displayed on canvas.

I don't purchase art that dipicts religious icons in waste. All I said was freedom of speech is something that allows art to be such. And I have the right to my own opinion too. But I guess differing viewpoints are not valued here. All you resort to is calling those who disagree names...
