Looking for a home
« on: October 04, 2011, 12:03:44 AM »
Hi y'all,

I'm going to come right out with it.  I voted for Obama in 2008.  I graduated college in 2005.  I have since clawed my way up as a software engineer to a $70k/yr salary.  The only problem is that I only bring home the same $800 per week that I did delivering pizzas during college.  It's mostly increases in 401(k) and health contributions.  A lot of it's probably because of Obamacare.

I have seen a lot of my less motivated coworkers get laid off in the last two years.  Mostly, they deserved it.  I am worried now though because they have me training their new center of excellence in Russia.  I don't know if they will replace me with cheap Russians or not.

I guess that I want a conservative hero.  I don't spend money.  I never took a handout.  I'm sick of whiney people that do.  The debt is TOO BIG.  But I also don't believe in God.  I'm not a libertarian.  I have army and navy officer friends - I think defense is good.  But I'm not such a fan of free trade or of the big businesses (not small or medium businesses) paying less than 0 taxes.

I know it's a weird position.  It took me a while to catch onto Obama, but I know he's crooked now.  I thought Bush II was crooked too.  I liked his dad.  I liked Reagan.  I would take 10 dollars in spending cuts for 1 dollar in tax increases.  Especially if it pared back welfare.  I guess I just don't know where to go.

I wish there were conservative candidates for someone like me.  Someone who I was sure cared about the middle class.  The Democrats care about the poor only.  That's why they do class warfare and promote welfare.  The Republicans seem only to care about billionaires though.  I aspire to be one one day, but I'm not there yet.  Is there anyone you know of that fits the bill?

I think Chris Christie might.  I've liked him a lot.  I don't like the current field of candidates.  I want someone to vote for that's not Obama.  Maybe you have more ideas of people up-and-coming in the conservative movement?  I'm new to it, I admit...

Welcome aboard. It's always good to see fresh faces.

You'll find that there's all types (of conservative) on this board.

Speaking for myself I'm neither a hardcore libertarian or in any way a religious person. IMO those aren't really core doctrine for conservatives.

I appreciate the kind comment.  I'm looking forward to being around and learning.  There needs to be a new way forward (particularly for the youth).  I'd like to find it here.

Democrats don't give a damn about the poor....they use them.

If democrats truly cared about the poor, they would voluntarially give more of their pesonal wealth to charity. Hell, just look at the liberal Hollywood stars, they demand payment to do charity fund raisers....and rich democrat politicians give next to nothing to charity, it's reported on their tax returns.

...and now we're sending jobs to Russia. Who's going to send us jobs when we're broke?...wait a minute....we are broke.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Hi tie, welcome. Glad to hear youve started to grow out of the emotional 'time of life' and have started to face the real world.

We all start out as babies with our hands out. First, all we do is whine and complain (especially after we sh*t ourselves). Then we learn to crawl. Then we walk. Then we run. Some of us even grow up to fly and to soar. :) Only 2 types of people are totally reliant on others for their existence. The very young (babies) and the very old. I take that back. There are also liberals.

But its a process. It takes time and real world experience. The important thing is youve decide to get up off the ground, discard the (depends) diapers and to give self reliance a try. Some of us stumble more than others ... but the journey has begun.

Anybody knows its easy to be a comedian -- with a foul mouth. It takes real smarts and talent to be very funny w/o the barrage of profanity. By the same token, its real easy to be a liberal wherein feelings and emotions oftentimes trump reason and logic. But to be conservative you have to be principled and you have to be able to enunciate the mechanics or the workings of it, the profundity of which can be rather tedious at times. In other word .. you have to THINK.

But generally speaking, it just gets better and better. Hope you enjoy your time with us.

Reagan bankrupted the Soviet Empire ...

Obama is bankrupting the American Republic
