  • If I agree with you, then we'll both be wrong.

The ratings are out for 2010.

Perhaps not surprisingly Fox News continued its march of dominance through the cablesphere, clocking its second-highest rated year ever in total viewers.

It was also the only news channel to hit the top 10 in cable networks, ranking fourth in Primetime behind USA, ESPN and TNT.

Want some context for that?  Fox News' total viewers for the year exceeded MSNBC, HLN, and CNN combined.

That dominance came primarily at the expense of CNN which lost 29% of its total viewership in 2010 and 34% of its prime time viewers.  Yes, you read that right.

MSNBC, meanwhile stayed the course in total day total viewers - it was the only news channel not to drop in that category -- but dropped 5% year over year in prime time total viewers and 9% in the prime time demo.

Nielsen numbers below.

When the rest of them are all carbon copies of the White House talking points, there isn't much point in watching them once you are know the Party Line.

Most people know the Left Wing message.  Even people on the Left lke watching Fox, because you actually get to be somewhat suprised at what you hear.

Got a phone call night before last.

The Nielsen people want us to participate in the rating process for one week next month.

The guy on the phone asked me in general terms what kind of programming we watch. I laughed at that because I watch so little TV I couldn't really answer that question. I explained that my wife has the addiction to TV problem, so he would do better to ask her. I did reveal that she worships Dr. Phil and isn't above adoring Orca from time to time. Dr. Oz is another of her favorites. After that, it's Ina Garten and all those freakin' HGTV shows - how to rebuild your house on $200, shit like that.  :rotf:

To her credit though, she doesn't watch news of any type except local. You know, the nonstop robberies, assaults, arsons, meth lab busts, and occasional murders. For some reason she calls watching that kinda shit "being informed".  :whatever:

I stick to my online version of WSJ and a few others. Screw the TV.

Fox News is way better than CNN, MSNBC and so on. Reason for one, Fox News allows opinions on BOTH sides. MSNBC and CNN, not so much.
When I am watching the news to help keep me informed, I WANT BOTH SIDES, not just left wing or right wing echo chamber. Nor do I want to feel as though the news is trying to make a kool-aid drinker out of me.

  • Oh snap!
We saw MSNBC was playing something called "Interview with a Vampire" tonight.  I thought that meant Chris Matthew's or MadCow was going to be interviewing a Twilight sparkle vampire, but it was actually about some gruesome murderer.

MSNBC does not play news.  They should turn into a a CourtTV2.
You may call me Jessica or Jess.
