Title: This Year The Libs Are So Eager To Prove Their Discredited...

Theory of glow bull warming that they have been following developments in the Pacific for lack of any in the Atlantic.
But years ago, when the specter of glow bull warming didn't exist, lib ineptitude was swept under the rug...

It was the most powerful hurricane to hit the United States.
No, not Katrina whose tenth anniversary was recently widely noted.

This was a much more more powerful hurricane with a much higher death toll.
It was the hurricane that hit the Middle Keys of Florida 80 Labor Days ago on September 2, 1935 and since hurricanes back then had no names, it was known as the Labor Day Hurricane.

There were over 400 official deaths, most of them World War I veterans working in three CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) camps building the overseas highway.
Most of those deaths could have been easily prevented but due to New Deal ineptitude, they met an avoidable fate in the Keys.

Few today have heard about this tragedy in part because the government ineptitude in question was Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal but less than two weeks after the Labor Day Hurricane hit, novelist Ernest Hemingway, who was living in Key West at the time, wrote an essay about it called Who Murdered the Vets?
Even if you are not a fan of Hemingway's fiction, you will find his facts about this hurricane tragedy quite interesting.

WHOM did they annoy and to whom was their possible presence a political danger?

Who sent them down to the Florida Keys and left them there in hurricane months?

Who is responsible for their deaths?

The writer of this article lives a long way from Washington and would not know the answers to those questions.
But he does know that wealthy people, yachtsmen, fishermen such as President Hoover and President Roosevelt, do not come to the Florida Keys in hurricane months.

Hurricane months are August, September and October, and in those months you see no yachts along the Keys.
You do not see them because yacht owners know there would be great danger, unescapable danger, to their property if a storm should come.

For the same reason, you cannot interest any very wealthy people in fishing of the coast of Cuba in the summer when the biggest fish are there.
There is a known danger to property.

But veterans, especially the bonus-marching variety of veterans, are not property.
They are only human beings; unsuccessful human beings, and all they have to lose is their lives.

They are doing coolie labor for a top wage of $45 a month and they have been put down on the Florida Keys where they can't make trouble.
It is hurricane months, sure, but if anything comes up, you can always evacuate them, can't you?

...It is not necessary to go into the deaths of the civilians and their families since they were on the Keys of their own free will;
they made their living there, had property and knew the hazards involved.

But the veterans had been sent there;
they had no opportunity to leave, nor any protection against hurricanes;
and they never had a chance for their lives.

Who sent nearly a thousand war veterans, many of them husky, hard-working and simply out of luck, but many of them close to the border of pathological cases, to live in frame shacks on the Florida Keys in hurricane months?

Why were the men not evacuated on Sunday, or, at latest, Monday morning, when it was known there was a possibility of a hurricane striking the Keys and evacuation was their only possible protection?
Who advised against sending the train from Miami to evacuate the veterans until four-thirty o'clock on Monday so that it was blown off the tracks before it ever reached the lower camps?

These questions are no longer asked in part because the mistakes were made by the "wrong" government.
However, if you are ever in the Florida Keys you might want to visit the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane Memorial monument in Islamorada at mile marker 81.5 directly across the from the library.

My understanding was that a wall of water swept across the keys wiping out the railroad.

Saw the monument way back in the 70's, I think it was.

There was also a devastating storm that hit Galveston in 1900.
Probably the worst ever to hit the US.
And it was long before libs had come up with the great glow bull warming swindle.

Heard of that one also.

When hurricane Hugo hit here in '89 someone did some research and discovered that one had hit here, way inland, in 1780 something that was stronger and did even more damage.

So, on the national TV news tonight I saw where California had some temps of just a little over 100. We've had temps over 100 but I don't remember it ever making the national news......and drought, we're 7" under normal...whoop-2-doo....1954 and 1980 was much worse but I guess they don't deserve mentioning because that was during the 'ice age'.

The simpleton Co2 warmists, who want to ram that theory of glow bull warming down our throats are yet again being schooled...

MASSIVE GLOBAL COOLING process discovered as Paris climate deal looms
'Could explain recent disagreements

As world leaders get ready to head to Paris for the latest pact on cutting CO2 emissions, it has emerged that there isn't as much urgency about the matter as had been thought.

A team of top-level atmospheric chemistry boffins from France and Germany say they have identified a new process by which vast amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted into the atmosphere from the sea - a process which was unknown until now, meaning that existing climate models do not take account of it.

The effect of VOCs in the air is to cool the climate down, and thus climate models used today predict more warming than can actually be expected. Indeed, global temperatures have actually been stable for more than fifteen years, a circumstance which was not predicted by climate models and which climate science is still struggling to assmilate.

In essence, the new research shows that a key VOC, isoprene, is not only produced by living organisms (for instance plants and trees on land and plankton in the sea) as had previously been assumed.
It is also produced in the "microlayer" at the top of the ocean by the action of sunlight on floating chemicals - no life being necessary.

And it is produced in this way in very large amounts.
According to an announcement just issued by the German government's Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research:

Atmospheric chemists from France and Germany, however, can now show that isoprene can also be formed without biological sources in the surface film of the oceans by sunlight and so explain the large discrepancy between field measurements and models.
The new identified photochemical reaction is therefore important to improve the climate models.

Global models at the moment assume total emissions of isoprene from all sources
- trees, plants, plankton, the lot
- of around 1.9 megatons per year.
But, according to the new research, the newly discovered "abiotic" process releases as much as 3.5 megatons on its own - which "could explain the recent disagreements" between models and reality.

"We were able for the first time to trace back the production of this important aerosol precursor to abiotic sources.
So far global calculations consider only biological sources," explains Dr Christian George from French lab the Institute of Catalysis and Environment, in Lyon.

VOCs such as isoprene are known to be a powerful factor in the climate, as they cause the formation of aerosol particles.
Some kinds of aerosol, for instance black soot, warm the world up: but the ones resulting from VOCs actually cool it down substantially by acting as nuclei for the formation of clouds.

It has previously been suggested that production of VOCs by pine forests could be a negative feedback so powerful that it "limits climate change from reaching such levels that it could become really a problem in the world."

With the discovery of the new abiotic sea process, the idea that cutting carbon emissions may not be all that urgent is looking stronger.
That's probably good news, as it has emerged lately that efforts to cut carbon emissions to date are having the unfortunate side effect of poisoning us all.
