The Obama administration is warning Congress that if it doesn't move to regulate greenhouse gases, the Environmental Protection Agency will take a "command-and-control" role over the process in a way that could hurt business.

The warning, from a top White House economic official who spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity, came on the eve of EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson's address to the international conference on climate change in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Jackson, however, tried to strike a tone of cooperation in her address Wednesday, explaining that the EPA's new powers to regulate greenhouse gases will be used to complement legislation pending in Congress, not replace it.

"This is not an 'either-or' moment. It's a 'both-and' moment," she said.

But while administration officials have long said they prefer Congress take action on climate change, the economic official who spoke with reporters Tuesday night made clear that the EPA will not wait and is prepared to act on its own.

And it won't be pretty.

If congress doesn't go as far as Lord Zero wants towards wrecking the economy even further, then Lord Zero will do it by fiat.  When are people going to wake the  :censored: up and realize that the best interests of this country is not what he has in mind?

I presume the draconian regulations will also come packaged with fines that would make Bill Gates wince too.
Also known as new way to finance socialism.

I'm assuming we don't have alot of comments on this one because everyone's feeling the same way I am.  Stunned silence.  WTF, and what can we do?

Pretty much, Karin.

'Command-and control' is exactly the phrase my Econ textbook uses to describe a Communist government.

If it ever comes to a battle of wills between the EPA and Congress over it (Of course this would require sane Congressmen instead of the current gang of mutual grifters), all they have to do is amend the Clean Air Act to exclude greenhouse gas issues and court decision giving EPA the authority to do this becomes a moot point.

This will allow them cover though so that they can simply look the other way and let the EPA do it for them.
As you say, with this Congress we are screwed as they will see this as a chance to go to measures they know they could never enact and retain their seats.

How soon into the next Congress is this going to change?  I think that the over/under is measured in hours . . .

And so will the jobs.  More people will have to rely on the government just to heat their homes, that is if we are allowed to heat our homes.

Interesting how the Democrat's always campaign on this. Companies moving jobs overseas. The left stands for high corporate taxes, unions, strangling regulations as well as everything that makes a business run for the border. Ironic that it's a direct result of democrat policies and they get to campaign on this issue without ever being called on it.

If the left wasn't in control the MSN would have been shreiking incessantly about unemployment. Obama basically ignored the jobs issue until just recently. Me thinks he got some data that the situation might be turning around and he wants to be seen as the cause. When we were shedding 500k plus jobs a month, not a peep!

It's not just CO2, there are 5 other gases included.

Quote
Endangerment Finding: The Administrator finds that the current and projected concentrations of the six key well-mixed greenhouse gases--carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)--in the atmosphere threaten the public health and welfare of current and future generations.
Cause or Contribute Finding: The Administrator finds that the combined emissions of these well-mixed greenhouse gases from new motor vehicles and new motor vehicle engines contribute to the greenhouse gas pollution which threatens public health and welfare.

They're going to tax your farts, too.

Hi,

I hope congress does not take the bait and let em regulate.  That will cause such a backlash that Zero and friends will be tarred and feathered.

I don`t want to sound pessimistic but I would disagree.

There will not be an equation in the general publics mind between their Congress person standing down to allow a faceless regulatory entity rule their lives.
It may be viewed as an act of the executive branch and could be a political issue there although for the most part even then an equivalence between O and administration policy might be blurred in the public.

Remember one thing...O has right from Jan 20th made saying one thing to a camera while his administration has been doing just the opposite and art form.
He still says that we will lower the deficit while every day his administration proposes new spending.

Then it's high time they're called on it!  Remember back to the 08 campaign, when Palin wanted to go after Obama's associations, but McCain put the kibosh on that, thinking it ungentlemanly or something?  What a load of crap.
The political environment is a little different these days.  With the wave of conservative populism, people won't shut up and sit down anymore.  Look at Joe Wilson.  He raised a cool $2 million in 2 days just by shouting "You lie!"

You're completely correct about it involving other gases, but perhaps aside from farmers and methane issues, the CO2 is the single one that cuts everyone's throats.

I can see two of the others resulting in higher prices on common products.

Nitrous Oxide
Quote
Primary human-related sources of N2O are agricultural soil management, animal manure management, sewage treatment, mobile and stationary combustion of fossil fuel, adipic acid production, and nitric acid production.

HFCs
Quote
HFCs are used as substitutes for ozone-depleting compounds such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in such uses as refrigeration, air conditioning, and the production of insulating foams.

I have noticed that all of the gases targeted by the EPA were ones targeted by the Kyoto Accord.

The reason for that goes back to the case EPA 'Lost' (Though the loss if perfectly fine with the current EPA Chief) at SCOTUS over whether GHGs had to be regulated under the Clean Air Act as a threat to health.  The point is highly debatable and SCOTUS succumbed to trash science in the finding, the only fix now is for Congress to amend the CAA and clearly exclude the global warming/climate change issue from its intended scope, which will vaporize EPA's authority to regulate the gases SOLELY on that basis (With such a limited amendment they would still be able to regulate to the point the gases directly affected human health in a biological sense).

But that will never happen under this, or any futuer, administration unless irrefutable proof of the falacy is covered by the mainstream media. Another thing that will never happen.

Remember, GE spends more on lobbying than anyone else... and also has the most to gain.

Was not the EPA a creature created by Congressional action?
 Maybe we as tax database sustainers should demand that the "creature " should be be un-funded from now on, perhaps totally de-legitimized and disbanded. No more EPA.... I relish the thought. " I got along before I met you and I'll get along without you now!"javascript:void(0);

Who's scared?......the EPA just put in an oder for some GLOCKS.

Do you suppose they suspect people ain't gonna like this?
