Actually, I have HEARD of McComas. Before cable and sat TV, when we lived in the "3 network era", we got 2 NBC stations, WHIS (now WVVA) out of Bluefield, and WSLS out of Roanoke.
I do remember seeing A. James Manchin's face on the TV all the time.
Wow, awesome. My dad was one when his father died in the Bluefield hospital, of food poisoning. Well, back in 1934 medicine had a long way to go! Anyway, granddad had been born in Scott county, VA, farmed and then went into mining, first in Wise county, VA, and then up to McComas. So, he musta gotten sick on West Virginian grub.
He's buried in Princeton and my dad grew up with in an orphanage for boys in Tazewell, VA. His mom lived in the town and married again after first being his housekeeper, but the guy apparently didn't want any of her seven children living with him.
