DUmmies are always proud to boast of the relatives, co-workers, and former friends that they have cut off due to political disagreements. If any of these tales bear a kernel of truth, it's the normal people who are avoiding the DUmmies. Of course it's highly unlikely that any of these tales bear a kernel of truth.

Who is the most infuriating Conservative nutjob you've ever had the displeasure to meet?
4 years ago, when I was still fresh out of college, my family was invited over to a friends' house--and, we were told, a couple who were new to our mutual synagogue. Before going, we were all told by my mom "these two are fairly Republican, so don't bring up anything controversial." This was in 2004, so naturally, tempers were running a little high. However, in the spirit of civility, we all agreed.

Everything was going fine--we were all talking about movies, hobbies, jobs, etc.--until my Dad (perhaps unthinkingly) mentioned he would be heading to San Francisco for a business trip. An approximate transcript is as follows:

Conservative Nutjob: "Oh, man, I feel so sorry for you."

My Dad: "Why?"

CN: "That city is just SO liberal. God, I wouldn't set foot in it if you paid me."

D: "Actually, I think it's quite a beautiful area..."

CN: "Sure, if you like gays running around sodomizing each other in public."

And that was the evening right there. The garbage didn't stop flowing out of this Moran--liberals were destroying the country from the inside, ditto immigrants, Bush was brilliant, Kerry was un-American, Israel had to be protected at all cost, Iraq had to be bombed back to the stone-age, and if you didn't think so, you weren't a good Jew. We all tried to bite our tongues, but one by one, we were all dragged into the shouting match, even my 85-year-old grandmother. And the guy never apologized for getting us all riled up--he seemed to genuinely enjoy being nasty.

When the evening ended, we were all in a lousy temper. Our hosts privately apologized and told us the couple would never be invited to their house again.

 I worry about my children who share the same genetics. So far they seem to be immune.

I had a friend send him a bumper sticker "Bush's Third Term / McCain" and the idiot actually put it on his bumper. I have no direct communication with this aberration for the better part of a year.

 My aunt and uncle home-schooled him, then sent him to private school later when they didn't have as much time. He was into the whole fundie, "Left Behind" stuff. He wrote conservative pieces for his college paper and now he writes for some neocon online rag. The day after the shootings at Virginia Tech, he wrote a piece calling the men there "cowards" for not taking down Cho Seung-Hui, despite knowing I'd graduated from Tech the year before. He's not on speaking terms with my part of the family anymore.

 he is one of those love america or leave it kind of guys,he's also a huge warmonger that wants to put a glass crater on nay country who doesn't respect us.

I would tell you a conversation,but we don't even talk anymore,are family doesn't even invite him to holidays anymore since he's such a nuisance.

 Same as the jerk in the OP this guy insists on bringing up politics even though he knows we are completely opposed to most of his "beliefs." He got so bad in 2004 I would hang up on him when he called and my husband stopped spending time with this friend of 25 years.

I was the first ever Republican in a family of Democrats going back several generations. At a family get together I made the mistake of saying my first time voting was for Reagan. Twenty some years later and some of them still refuse to even talk to me.

The problem is that we think 'tolerance' means the same for conservatives as it does for liberals. To a conservative political tolerance means the other guy gets to have his say regardless of how much we might disagree with him. To a liberal political tolerance means the other guy is allowed to agree with his politics and nothing more.

I should really put together a 'liberal dictionary'. It would save us all a lot of misunderstanding.

You are without a doubt totally correct.  My family is chock full of liberals, some to the point of Marxism.  I have been told that I cannot bring up my Army experiences in my SIL's home as her husband will not tolerate any positive talk of the military.  Funny, he's Jewish and some of his elderly family members had been liberated by our forces.  Anyway, I respect his request while in his home and I still go there as required on holidays.

My former step-father is one them crazy 9/11 truther moonbats.  Bush this.  Bush that.  Isn't it weird the way the towers fell?  Yadda yadda yadda and so forth.  Every time I go to visit my mother he tries to goad me or my wife.  I've had to train myself not to take the bait.  I've got more of a chance of having a legitamate debate with a brick wall.  Because, after all, he knows "how it works."  How everything works.  He knows, and there's no telling him any different.  Thing is, he can't tell me I'm not welcome, because he still lives with my mother 15 years after their separation, can't get a decent job and won't leave.  And of course, that's Bush's fault, too. 

When I say "typical moobat," yeah... I mean TYPICAL moobat.   

But ya know what, I still talk to him.  He's still a funny bastard when it comes to watching and commenting on sports.  So I don't believe these moonbat bouncies for a second.  Most of them are thankful to have whatever sort of human interaction they can get.  They WISH they could be out shooting down Republicans but the only thing they shoot is the breeze.

One of my favorite people is a raving moonbat, she even belongs to MoveOnOregon which she believes is a credible news source. Her and her family are coming over today to participate in the annual meat bird kill-off festival. I raised birds for her this year so we're going to make margaritas, barbecue and kill and pluck. We have pretty similar values but views government's role differently than I do, much differently. We talk politics but there are lines we don't cross, we don't let the conversations drag on, and we try to be respectful and gentle with each other. However, we share a love of nature, gardening, and farming. I'm a political junkie but my real life is here and I'm not going to let the nonsense happening in Washington DC (most of which I can't do anything about anyway) get in the way of important relationships. That's just nuts.

My dad and my youngest brother are both hardcore conservatives like myself, but my sister is kind of liberal, but we get along great. She's a greeny, vegan type, but she's still loads of fun to be around, and we even take jabs at each other's diet and such. My mother is one of those "I pay taxes, so the government should take care of me" types, but we still talk just about everyday and have dinner every week at her house. My brother that moved down from Wisconsin is a bit of an atheist and leaning towards voting for Obama, but we still go out drinking when he's in town and all that. We just don't let politics get in the way of being a family and loving each other.

Funny that the libs at DU can't be more tolerant... especially to their relatives.

Goad? Uh no, the first time we met he cornered me when I was alone and launched a full out moonbat assault, complete with every leftist/DU talking point he could pull out of his rectum. I knew right away there was no discussing anything with the man, so futility won and I ended up just walking away.

But yeah, he's family, so it's all good, and he is funny as hell as an ad lib sports commentator. So now that I know what he's like, I expect his crazy talk and just nod my head and laugh....and oh yeah, Red now knows to never leave me alone with the man. EVER.

But I have to admit, I'm kinda looking forward to our next family get-together so my 8 year old can tell him what a rocking rightwinger she is now. I don't think he's going to appreciate her asking him why he's spent his lifetime sucking off the teat of the government.
