You Know, If The State REQUIRES You To Do Something...........
.............then the State is required to make it free, even if just for the destitute. So then by that logic, if the State is going to force you to carry a pregnancy to term, shouldn't the State be required to pay for all of your prenatal care/medical bills for that pregnancy? I think if the religious wackos are going to force us ride this train, we should at least get everything we can out of the ride (or, dare I say, lay back and enjoy it?) Start passing laws that say when a woman walks into her doctor's office and declares that she has an unwanted pregnancy, all of her medical bills related to that pregnancy will be paid by the State (or better yet, her care is completely free--the doctors can't charge ANYONE). The right-wing A-holes who saddled us with this bullshit will hate this on SOOOOO many levels. First, it will cause their taxes to go up (in the case of the State paying for medical care), which they hate, OR it will be the advent of socialized medicine, which they also hate. It will also turn the doctors against them because now they're doing work for free.
I can hear everyone saying it now. "But if we do that, why wouldn't EVERY pregnant woman just say she has an unwanted pregnancy so she can get all her prenatal care for free?" And my response to that is.............EXACTLY!!!
Then you can go even further. Pass a law saying that as soon as a woman declares her pregnancy to be unwanted, a requisite amount of money is to be set aside by the government for the care of that child after its birth (with a corresponding tax increase for the citizens of that State, of course, in order to cover it). I think you'll see a WHOOOOOOOLE lot of people suddenly "discover" just how Pro-Choice they are once they start getting the tax bill for living in the State of Bibleland. And even better, maybe they'll start abandoning their red States relocating to blue States for the lower taxes. And then you'll see all those solid red States with their 3 electoral votes yelling about how nobody listens to them anymore.
I'm sure there are a million ways we can make these A-holes regret this decision if we get creative enough. They're the dog that caught the car. Let's make them never forget it.
That's a whole lot of crazy packed into one post, so let's just hit the high points:
"If The State REQUIRES You To Do Something then the State is required to make it free" - In what universe does this rule exist? I can't even guess the logic of that statement, unless the DUmmy has never paid income taxes or sales taxes or had a driver's license or registered a vehicle, etc. I guess if you lived on welfare your entire life and relied on others to get around you might think that everything in life can be obtained for free.
"shouldn't the State be required to pay for all of your prenatal care/medical bills for that pregnancy" - Medicare/Medicaid already pay a ridiculous amount of money for bills related to pregnancies. But isn't everyone supposed to have medical insurance? Wasn't that something Obama promised?
"or better yet, her care is completely free--the doctors can't charge ANYONE" - The US already has a shortage of OB/GYN's, so lets fix that situation by telling them that they have to work for free. The best way to improve women's access to their specific medical care specialists is to drive all the doctors into other fields. And when all the OB/GYN's are gone, who's going to perform abortions?
"But if we do that, why wouldn't EVERY pregnant woman just say she has an unwanted pregnancy so she can get all her prenatal care for free?" And my response to that is.............EXACTLY" - This plan will work perfectly. We just need to convince everyone to lie about it. And who will provide this care? The doctors that no longer are being paid for their services.
"as soon as a woman declares her pregnancy to be unwanted, a requisite amount of money is to be set aside by the government for the care of that child after its birth" - The government already provides loads of money for children born into less than ideal situations. And the DUmmy accidentally just made a solid case for adoption advocates.
"maybe they'll start abandoning their red States relocating to blue States for the lower taxes" - LOL. Again I'm thinking this person has never actually paid taxes.

1. So make a woman go through a dangerous, uncomfortable, possibly life threatening experience
for 10 months, but throw money at her to do it?
You know, like when you feed a parking meter?
That's the suggestion?
Lots of suggestions tonight about how to "make the assholes regret the decision."
None of them say anything about the rights or health or life of the "vessel."
Get a clue.

2. Agreed
All the $ in the world does not compensate for the physical risk of childbearing.
What about the rights or health or life of the baby? And the physical risks of childbearing, while real, pale in comparison to the risks of doing things like working in construction. The argument that pregnancy poses a significant risk to healthy American women is pretty weak, which is why they are so fond of using maternal mortality rates from third-world countries to try to prove their point.

4. Hmmm, hadn't thought of that.
But, you would need to pass the law at the state level in the same state where the repukes are restricting abortions. So, they won’t do it.
But, we could tie stuff up in courts, no?
I still am grieving from the news. Since I am no longer of childbearing age, I am not panicked for myself personally. But I’m still raging and grieving and concerned about other losses of rights and heartbreak and dog only knows what else.
This is not right.
Nobody has thought of this master plan, because it's too damn stupid to occur to anyone with two working brain cells.

6. That Did Occur To Me
But I figured that it could passed as a Federal law that would apply to all States. We can still do that. But the flaw there is that if we're going to take lots of small measures, why not just pass a law making Roe law? So yeah, it's not a perfect plan. I'm just throwing ideas out there of how we can chip away at this big monster and make it small enough to finally kill.
The fact of the matter is that the fanatics who WANT these bans will never back down. Not with any amount of protests and confrontations. The ONLY way you win is to change their minds. And the only way to do that is to make it personal TO THEM. Make them taste their own bitter medicine. That's what I was trying to do by proposing this. Most of the pro-lifers are only pro-lifers because the issue will NEVER affect them personally. This will help turn it around on them. As I said, it's not a perfect plan, nor is it a complete plan. I'm just throwing out ideas. Because like it or not, this is about to happen, and getting mad and stomping your foot won't change that. You have to change their minds.
It's not a perfect plan, nor is it a complete plan, nor is it remotely doable. But DU does love the concept of governance modeled on the belief of unicorns.

7. Hahahaha... Yes, they should. It's right, possible, fair, moral, etc. So you know...
They won't.
DUer's need to start forwarding this idea to all their elected representatives. That's the only way this plan will ever come to fruition. Ya just gotta believe!!!!
