A secession movement is strong in Alberta. 41% support in a recent poll. Canada has a legal framework which allows secession. Outside the two big cities, Calgary and Edmonton, there is a clear majority.
Motivation is economic and social. Revenue from Alberta far exceeds their "fair share" and they are outraged by the progressive/fascist central government. When Trump was in office, many Albertans wanted to be the 51st state, they might be re-thinking that now.
