Has anyone here had the flu yet this season?  I'm curious if you have what your first symptoms were.

I was achy and feeling odd on the second day after I got a flu shot.  This is the first year I have had that happen.

Well the reason I asked was that my throat started hurting around lunch then it got progressively worse as the day went on. Noticably worse.  Then the headache kicked in. I still have the sore throat and headache, I'll see how I feel when I wake up tomorrow. My ears now feel itchy too, deep down where you cant scratch it itchy and it seems connected to the sore throat.

Two local kids have died from this flu.  There is talk of making the shots mandatory for school kids.  I'm mixed on that idea.

I came down with the flu the weekend before Christmas (early Sat. morning). I had a temp of 102 Sat, Sun and half of Monday when it finally broke. Hot, achy, lots of coughing (to the point of throwing up a bit), nose like a faucet and crushing headache. Fun . . .  :(

I am so dang ticked at the Mesquite hospital treating that little girl with zyrtec.  Zyrtec won't help the flu.

Seriously?  They treated her with Zyrtec?

I feel like shit but I don't think I have a fever. My nose it stuffed yet draining in the back of my throat, my throat hurts, my ears itch (deep down in the ear canal), I have a headache and my eyes burn. I feel a little achy but not to the level that I can't get out of bed.

I laid in bed earlier and watched Mommy Dearest on Amazon Prime. Now I'm in the family room watching youtube on my TV. I have a lot of crafting channels I subscribe to on youtube. When I log on with my TV it just plays one after another.

It didn't turn into anything.

At first thought influenza, the diagnosis changed after further observation.

The kissing disease, mononucleosis.  I'm dragged out, worn out, tired.

However, I'm defiantly confident I'll get over it.

Frank I got mono and strep a month before I got married.  The mono lasted for a couple of months. I ended up with these strange bumps on my shins called Erythema nodosum.  I was really really sick. Take care of youself.

I've complained of having the flu many times, but it wasn't. I finally got the real flu several years ago and found out the real deal. I physically could not get out of bed for three days. I really thought I was going to die. The Flu is a monster. I never developed a bad cough. Body aches where vicious. Dehydration was terrible, and any fluids you take in, came right back up. Another day would have done me in.

Take care BEG, all the symptoms you described are the beginning of something nasty.  The "itchy ears" are a big indicator...happens every time I get sick too.

Unless you're running a fever, usually it's just a cold or something other than the flu.  If you do have a fever...then it's usually a symptom of the flu virus.

Stay hydrated, take vitamin D, get as much rest as you possibly can.  One of the biggest cures is rest and drinking a lot of fluids...I mean a lot more than normal.  Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Teri, I feel worse today. I did take sudafed earlier nad it is helping with my stuffed up nose. I think I may have a slight fever.

Hope you're on the mend today BEG.  I know how nasty these bugs are.  I had it really bad last year, me and the hubby both did.  It took us almost three weeks to get over it and we still had to drag ourselves to work with it.

When you said you had that deep down itchiness in the ears is when I knew you'd caught something.  That's one of the biggest symptoms I get when I know something nasty is lurking in my system.  The itchy ears is one of the first symptoms before it kicks into full steam.

I see that someone mentioned vitamin d? I take it daily (prescribed) for a deficiency. Silly question but how does it help not getting sick?

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. DB, vitamin D is a great for a lot of things.  Here's a site that I found that explains it better than I could.  I take it daily myself too.

http://www.ehow.com/how_5343048_use-vitamin-flu-medicine.html

Vitamin D is growing in popularity as a way to prevent flu. Current medical research has identified a correlation between seasonal Vitamin D levels and influenza. The more sun, the less illness. The less sun, the more flu. Research has also shown that vitamin D prevents respiratory infections in adults and children. Lots of flu remedies provide flu relief, but Vitamin D actually prevents flu. It is especially effective at preventing respiratory illness making it a perfect flu medicine. Here's how to use vitamin D safely and effectively.

I take 50,000 units of vitamin D every Thursday morning.  I'm Ok.
