Title: Parkland school cop Scot Peterson gets $8,702 a month in pension
Post by: mrclose on May 15, 2018, 08:34:41 PM

Plus, he is free to go work somewhere else and still receive his full pension.

Quote
Scot Peterson, the sheriff’s deputy vilified for failing to confront the Parkland school shooter, has begun receiving a state pension of $8,702.35 a month.

Peterson resigned and retired Feb. 22, a week after the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where he waited outside as Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people and wounded 17 others.

Peterson began to receive his pension in April, according to the Florida Department of Management Services. He can receive the payments for the rest of his life.

The 55-year-old Peterson, a Broward deputy for 32 years, was paid $101,879.03 last year — $75,673.72 in base salary plus overtime and other compensation, according to sheriff’s office records. Until the shooting, he was considered a trusted school resource officer at Stoneman Douglas, according to annual reviews of his performance.

Hmmm... sounds like several victim's families should sue for wrongful death (might as well loop in the BCSO and the Lt who gave the "establish a perimeter" order), since were it not for their failure to act, those victims may be alive.  I'd accept a settlement in the amount of $8703 per month for the rest of his life, just so he gets no benefit from it.

I heard that on the radio this morning. That is pretty disgusting. That's about 100K a year for retirement. A little excessive in my book.

Not gonna happen.  He was acting within the scope of his work as a peace officer.  The fact he misjudged a situation (no matter why) probably makes him immune to prosecution or civil suits.  The spate of prosecutions of cops for killing kids hing on them working OUTSIDE the scope which is why very few have made it to the courtroom.

It is a loser out of the gate so that is why you don't have lawyers beating down doors of the parents of the dead kids to file cases against this guy.

He should be thrown in prison.

He should be thrown in prison.

I agree with the sentiment but am not sure what the charge would be.

I understand. Seems to me, neglect of duty.
