Burger King under fire for Whopper Virgins taste test challenge

In teaser adverts promoting its "Whopper Virgins" challenge, the fast food chain describes how it sought out farmers in rural Romania, Thai villagers and residents of Greenland's icy tundra to compare its signature burger with arch rival McDonalds'.

"What happens if you take Transylvanian farmers who have never eaten a burger and ask them to compare Whopper versus Big Mac in the world's purest taste test?" one of the adverts asks. "Will they prefer the Whopper? These are the Whopper Virgins."

"It's outrageous," Sharon Akabas of the Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia University, told the New York Daily News. "What's next? Are we going to start taking guns out to some of these remote places and ask them which one they like better?"

"It doesn't get much more offensive than this," noted The Inquisitor blog. "If visiting poor people in remote locations, some who would be at best surviving on below poverty levels and throwing a burger in their faces isn't bad enough, it gets better, because they also ask the Whopper Virgins to compare the taste of the Whopper to a McDonalds Big Mac as well.

"It's hard to place exactly where this begins on the level of wrongness."

I ordered Pizza Hut's new 'Pan'ormous pizza yesterday.  This thing is huge.  If it doesn't go bad, I'll probably be gnawing on it for breakfast on Sunday morning (with a cold beer).

Well, their ad makes sense, as we all have preconceived notions about fast food burger joints. Some Liberal ****TARD is just whining to be heard. ::)

Wouldn't surprise me at all if McDonalds or Wendy's or another burger joint competitor of Burger King is behind the whining campaign.  They see Burger King has come up with a rather unique marketing advertisement and are running scared.

I usually hate the service at BurgerKing, but I prefer their burgers over McDonald's. Well, except that Steakhouse Burger, they put some kind of weird sauce on it with the French Fried onions that just doesn't appeal to my taste buds.

But yeah, either this clown at the Human Nut-rition department is throwing a fit, or it's another clown in red and yellow.

Gotta concur.  I didn't always go with the Big Macs or Double Cheeseburgers out in town, tho--(no quarter pounders, at least not in the ones in Toyko/Yokohama).

I liked the croquet burgers and the bacon lettuce burgers.  I just looked on their website and I guess now they DO have 1/4 pounders, and DOUBLES at that!  Woo-hoo!

Why the hell not?  There is nothing wrong with guns.

It has been yrs since I've been but there was a Sonic Burger Drive-in  in Las Cruces NM that you pert near needed a reservation to get in. I dunno what they did to their burgers but they were good. The sonic they have here is so so but their onion rings suck.

Burgers you can dress up with onions, jalapenos, tomatoes etc but if you screw up the O rings it's a deal breaker.

I'm not a huge fan of Sonic.  They're okay, but I'd rather have a Steak 'n Shake double with everything.

Has anybody seen the website yet? They got it up, and it's not bad. Granted, some people did prefer the Big Mac (and they showed it), but the crew and BK people who went there learned quite a bit from the locals. I'm sure at least this Sharon Alluh Akbar could even appreciate that if ya watch it.

Any discussion of Burgers -- even in passing -- MUST include listing of the best burgers.
