2. There have been many
   
but not since the early-mid 70's. The SLA was probably the last. As soon as the war was over in Vietnam the violence ended pretty much.

Because if it does I can't count them all.


These do tend to target property and not human beings so IMO they should not be lumped in with shooting children and blowing up buildings with people in them.



If we exclude eco-terrorism I can't think of any.

ok, I'll byte, the ALF has done some more recently, but none is a mass casualty incident.

Yes burning houses is a crime... but in my mind a little different than killing 90 people...

That list is missing the Columbine massacre.  Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris WERE terrorists who killed 12 and injured 21.  They were VERY left wing and hated Christians and Christianity.

I've got one more for the list:

The Zebra Murders in San Francisco: 1973-1974.  A group of black militants committed a series of murders and assaults, specifically targeting white people.  14 people died and 8 survived with serious injuries.  Most victims were shot, but at least one was hacked to death with a machete.  Four men were convicted of multiple counts of murder and were sentenced to life (they're still in prison today).  Authorities believe that there were other perpetrators, but there wasn't enough evidence to make a case against them.

All murders are motivated by hatred but those 2 idiots were not attempting to achieve a political outcome. Terrorism is a serious charge. Terrorism is a direct attack on instituted government, the means by which free people govern their society. Yes, it attacks people but it does so as an effort to compel government policy. As such the government should react as if it were a declaration of war.

We do not want civilian crimes, no matter how emotionally inspired, to be treated as acts of war because the legal strictures are wholly different and we would not tap the phones or detain the parents of Klebold and Harris the way we would the parents of Khalid Sheik Mohammed.
