Title: Outdoor Swimming Pools. Saltwater Versus Chlorine?
Post by: Gratiot on January 20, 2011, 04:04:17 PM
Is anyone really familiar with using saltwater versus chlorine for a swimming pool?  Is it really easier, cheaper to maintain, and noticeable while swimming?

I'm not sure on the maintenance side of things but salt water pools are far far better to swim in.

If i wasn't so much of a scottsman I'd think about putting one in.

We have had both (plus a mineral system), go with salt.

Allergic to chlorine, so we started our pool with Baccacile (sp?).  Anyway, about $500 for the season on that.  Changed to the saltwater system this year.  It is a bit of a cash layout to start up, but I think we maybe hit $100 on chemicals this last summer.  We vaccuumed the pool once a week and checked the chemical levels at the same time. We had kids (anywhere from just my 3 to 6 or so at a time) swimming in it everyday.  I like how "soft" the water feels.

Thanks for the replies!  Unfortunately, we withdrew our offer on the house.  Turns out it was one street over from one of the best public school systems in the state, and that just happened to be the dividing line between a phenomenal school system and... well... Looking at private schools.
