FAA Memo: Feds Knew NYC Flyover Would Cause Panic



Threatened Federal Sanctions Against NYPD, Secret Service, FBI & Mayor's Office If Secret Ever Got Out

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A furious President Barack Obama ordered an internal review of Monday's low-flying photo op over the Statue of Liberty.

CBS 2 HD has discovered the feds will have plenty to question.

Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.

In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.

Obama Orders Review of New York Flight as Cost Put at $328,835

April 28 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama ordered a review of a publicity-photo shoot with one of the planes that serves as Air Force One that cost taxpayers $328,835 and caused a furor in New York City.

Obama said he wasn’t informed in advance of yesterday’s low-altitude flight over New York Harbor, which rattled windows in New York’s financial district and prompted some office workers to flee buildings in fear it was a terrorist attack.

“It was a mistake,” Obama said today before a meeting at FBI headquarters in Washington. “It will not happen again.”

The incident continued to reverberate in New York and Washington today with two senators demanding an accounting of how the flight was approved, its cost and procedures aimed at avoiding a repeat.

“The supposed mission represents a fundamentally unsound exercise in military judgment and may have constituted an inappropriate use of Department of Defense resources,” Senator John McCain of Arizona wrote in a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

I agree that he was the one behind the whole thing, but I'm unsure that it was him that told everyone to keep it a secret.

Sorry, but ordering a photo op is beneath His Holiness' "dignity." Nope, this is the work of a staffer and Caldera has already 'fessed up - noble and convenient of him to do so, and the bus is warming up with a brand new set of tires on it, but I just don't see The One ordering a photo op.

He's far busier looking for ways to build in socialism within the fabric of our country. That kind of work is "dignified." Besides, it's what Ayers and Soros would have him do.

Yeah, I agree, and actually this is a harsh introduction to the Great One about the realities of the Presidency - you get the blame for everything whether you had anything to do with it or not, no amount of $$$ or subversion invested in the press will really undo that.

That's a very good point, and I'm enjoying pointing the blame.  Who knows what really happened behind closed doors?  But, I can picture him coming up with the idea, because he's got this mindset of "I won, so I'll do whatever the hell I want."  Then again, all his sycophants have the same mindset.  And, too, his utter tone-deafness and blinders when it comes to matters of terrorism.

I don't think the military liason is solely responsible.....a lot of people had to approve this, the cover-up and gag order are more disturbing to me.  I heard some of those 911 calls, and they were chilling.

How would B.O. not know about this?  It was one of the two official planes that carry him around!  No one at any point bothered to mention this photo op to him?  We're looking at two possibilities, folks, neither of which reflect well on B.O.: (1) he approved the photo op, making him an idiot (and a liar who is trying to cover it up), or (2) he didn't know about the photo op, making him ignorant about what his own staffers are doing.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was only the flight crew and a photographer or two. You know to make it the maximum waste of money. If there were passengers, it's got to be kept secret for 'national security'.
