Title: Copenhagen climate summit: 1,200 limos, 140 private planes and caviar wedges

On a normal day, Majken Friss Jorgensen, managing director of Copenhagen's biggest limousine company, says her firm has twelve vehicles on the road. During the "summit to save the world", which opens here tomorrow, she will have 200.

"We thought they were not going to have many cars, due to it being a climate convention," she says. "But it seems that somebody last week looked at the weather report."

Ms Jorgensen reckons that between her and her rivals the total number of limos in Copenhagen next week has already broken the 1,200 barrier. The French alone rang up on Thursday and ordered another 42. "We haven't got enough limos in the country to fulfil the demand," she says. "We're having to drive them in hundreds of miles from Germany and Sweden."

And the total number of electric cars or hybrids among that number? "Five," says Ms Jorgensen. "The government has some alternative fuel cars but the rest will be petrol or diesel. We don't have any hybrids in Denmark, unfortunately, due to the extreme taxes on those cars. It makes no sense at all, but it's very Danish."

The airport says it is expecting up to 140 extra private jets during the peak period alone, so far over its capacity that the planes will have to fly off to regional airports – or to Sweden – to park, returning to Copenhagen to pick up their VIP passengers.

As well 15,000 delegates and officials, 5,000 journalists and 98 world leaders, the Danish capital will be blessed by the presence of Leonardo DiCaprio, Daryl Hannah, Helena Christensen, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Prince Charles. A Republican US senator, Jim Inhofe, is jetting in at the head of an anti-climate-change "Truth Squad." The top hotels – all fully booked at £650 a night – are readying their Climate Convention menus of (no doubt sustainable) scallops, foie gras and sculpted caviar wedges.

Global warming doesn't affect the elites.
The elites don't affect global warming.

That y'all knew that?  :-)

Here's another AP article providing fear mongering to back the theory of glowbull warming.

Quote
Decade of 2000s was warmest ever, scientists say

Over the decade's first nine years, global temperatures averaged 0.6 degrees Celsius (1.1 degrees F) higher than the 1951-1980 average, NASA reported. And temperatures rose faster in the far north than anyplace else on Earth.
BS (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091207/ap_on_re_us/decade_s_end_climate)

Why are they eliminating the data from 1980 through 1999?  Could it be that if those were included, then temperatures would be shown to be decreasing since those two decades?

Didja hear about Al Gore's globull warming poem, as featured on Rush today?  Embarrasingly lame, as is most poetry.  It features a "shepherd" at the end.  Self-aggrandizing biblical references are laughable, as well as blasphemous.  Hope anybody that does that has to answer to it someday.

It's about political power, HG.  And with these turds, political power does not have to have any basis in reality; political power is its own reality.

Did anyone catch the nauseatingly disgusting lies ABC threw out yesterday evening on their nightly news? Seems poor people in Louisiana are having to move from their island they've lived on for decades due to the water levels rising. Guess what they blamed that on?

Nevermind that during the trip in of Katrina they explained in detail why the marshes south of NO are disappearing. Guess what had absolutely not a damned thing to do with it? I was screaming at the TV.  :-) Momma got a bit upset.

The media (with the exception of FOX) is complicit in most of the "gains" being made by this administration.  This is why FOX beats them in every time slot...Americans are backing away from this administration...finally.

Americans are backing away from this administration...finally.

Unfortunately, backing away from the proverbial snake that is this Administration is not a valid option.  Anything other than getting it it's face, gaining control of it, and cutting the proverbial head off is going to be so costly to our individual liberties and rights that if the venom doesn't kill us (as a nation) it will leave us crippled, weakened and a shadow of our former strength.  This is a politrical fight we cannot afford to disengage from if we want this nation to continue to survive as our fathers and their fathers handed it down to us.

They probably get raging hard-ons just dreaming about the chance to have power over our very breath, literally, and making us pay to exhale it.

Rush was talking about a breaking scandal today, concerning some leaked draft agreement that would have cut the UN process out in favor of the World Bank, and ultimately screwed over the poorer countries at the expense of the players in the World Bank.  It will probably be completely ignored in our press today but it sounds like it has the Third World delegates completely enraged and could possibly make the wheels come off the whole thing, depending on how it develops.

They have reason to be serious.  As much of our government's debt as they own, we have all willingly put on the slave bracelet for them.

Last time we went thru this BS, someone asked how to handle the debt. Well, limit the foreihn debt to no more than it is. Cut the budget, as the nation recovers, to less than the tax income. Then use the surplus to buy out the creditor nations. Eventually, permit only 40% of the debt be purchased by foreign powers as a maximun, and run defecits only during wartime or recession.

HOWEVER, any bidding on debt would go to US Persons and corps. with only remanders going to foreigners after we are thru.

Remember, that way we keep out GDP profits home. Every dollar we send in interest we send overseas is a foreigner's hand in our pocket . picking our wages out. When we owe the debt to us, the wealth stays home and it is utterly managable.

Had we done that 30 years ago, we'd not be in this recession/debt trap that we are today.

Why is it so warm in Copenhagen out there in the middle of the Baltic way so far north?  It should have snowed and snowed and stormed there the whole week.

Now here in Portland, we have been suffering  a really intense cold snap.  It has been down into the teens, which is really rare here.   Did we get the weather that was meant for Copenhagen?

Yah, I know it's juvenile, just like "poopie caca pants" is juvenile.... but sometimes you just have to call em the way you see em.

I almost had a mini embellism (sp?), it sure felt like it anyway. My 5th grader had to do a unit on global warming this afternoon. WTF? I told her to bring the materials home, I would like to review them. Hell hath no fury....

My cousin just got a teaching degree. She's an awesome girl. But one conversation with her and I told her squarely: "you're not smart enough to teach my kids..." And I'll gladly repeat that to anyone who teaches the religion of global warming. Go get 'em!!!!!

Getting down to 20 or a bit lower tonight.....I'm not complaining.

I always said I would move back to Omaha or Chicago in a heartbeat...I'm rethinking that after this weekend... :(

The cold was bad, but I had no problem getting warm....bought boots and the kid's Yukon had a great heater and heated seats.....what I had a problem with was how my skin felt! I got alligator skin in 2 days from that cold and dry air!! I felt like all the moisture was sucked right out of me.... :o

It can get dry here in the winter (E TN).....but nothing like it was out in the midwest!

We went to dinner at a private club in GI where my son used to work. I was told I looked too young to be his mother. (Tell me I didn't love that!!! :-)) The ex and all his family are members.  :evillaugh:

Copenhagen climate summit negotiations 'suspended'
By Richard Black
Environment correspondent, BBC News website, Copenhagen

Climate conference hall, Copenhagen
The African delegation is unhappy over moves by the Danish government

Negotiations at the UN climate summit have been suspended after developing countries withdrew their co-operation.

Delegations were angry at what they saw as moves by the Danish host government to sideline talks on more emission cuts under the Kyoto Protocol.

As news spread around the conference centre, activists chanted "We stand with Africa - Kyoto targets now".

But talks between the parties were expected to resume in the afternoon and informal discussions continue.

The countries that have suspended co-operation are those which make up the G77-China bloc of 130 nations. These range from wealthy countries such as South Korea, to some of the poorest states in the world.

Blocs representing poor countries vulnerable to climate change have been adamant that rich nations must commit to emission cuts beyond 2012 under the Kyoto Protocol.

But the EU and the developed world in general has promoted the idea of an entirely new agreement, replacing the protocol.

Developing countries fear they would lose many of the gains they made when the Kyoto agreement was signed in 1997.
