Five of the Most Dangerous Taliban Commanders in U.S. Custody Exchanged for American Captive
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/five-most-dangerous-taliban-commanders-us-custody-released-pow-exchange_794017.html

Quote
The Obama administration announced today that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who has been held by the Taliban for several years, has been freed from his captors. Reading the stories of his newfound freedom it is impossible not to feel joy for Bergdahl and his family. NBC News reports that Bergdahl held up a sign once he was on board an American helicopter that read, “SF?” The operators quickly confirmed that they were in fact U.S. Special Forces: “Yes, we’ve been looking for you for a long time.”

“On behalf of the American people, I was honored to call his parents to express our joy that they can expect his safe return, mindful of their courage and sacrifice throughout this ordeal,” President Obama said in a statement. The president rightly noted: “Sergeant Bergdahl's recovery is a reminder of America's unwavering commitment to leave no man or woman in uniform behind on the battlefield.”

Unfortunately, America is not the only party in this war that is committed to leaving no man behind. So are the Taliban and other al Qaeda-linked groups. But the president did not say who America exchanged for Bergdahl: five of the most dangerous Taliban commanders in U.S. custody.

For one missing American soldier, America gave up five from Gitmo, who are dangerous. There is no reasoning with the Taliban.

His dad also called for the release of all Guantanamo prisoners.

And he disappeared under very suspect circumstances.

So, it looks like we may have traded 5 Taliban commanders for a traitor.

You really should have some solid evidence before you accuse an American soldier and POW of being a trader.

Sadly...there's evidence to back up what HH is saying.

The scuttlebutt since it happened was that he walked out on his own. These emails seem to confirm it.

He's a loser, but ever since that little rat Garwood in Viet Nam, the government pretends that anyone taken prisoner is a first-class soldier and they even get promoted on schedule while in captivity (Like this bozo did), no matter how much their plight was their own damned fault even if you are a complete dumbshit AWOL (like here)/sneak off to screw in the cab of a trans truck she and her boyfriend misappropriated (Gulf I)/make the patrol you're leading go up a mountain in Serbian territory so you can try to make a personal cell phone call to wifey-poo (OJE).  Accountability for your own misconduct just  doesn't happen anymore, if you are taken prisoner and survive the experience.

His dad sounds like a hippy.  I wonder why he even joined in the first place.

He trained in ballet and sailing and was known for his manners and practical jokes - but did Bowe Bergdahl really desert his army post out of protest?

From the beginning, Bowe Bergdahl was not your conventional US Army Sergeant.

Traveling extensively and trained in ballet, he had sailed across the Atlantic by his late teens, but was home-schooled in a small town in Idaho with a population of about 8,000.

His friends say he enlisted in the army to help the Afghan people and provide philanthropic support to the war effort.

It appears that Bowe Bergdahl enlisted for a philanthropic reason.

Bergdahl told his parents he was 'ashamed to even be American'.

Sounds like a moonbat to me.

Bergdahl told his parents he was 'ashamed to even be American'....Moochelle's long lost brother.

Now he's back home to cause trouble. He belongs on the FBI watch list.

When he first got to Afghanistan he didn't feel that way.  It seemed to have something to do with the patrols they were sent out on.  They would meet with the Afghan people during the day, many were IED on the roads and the people were used like rabbits, or so said his dad.  Seems that's when he became disillusioned.

How many soldiers died when they went to look for this asshole?  And now we traded 5 commanders for him.

Classic Obama.

Well, he wasn't any kind of U.S. Army sergeant when he deserted, conventional or otherwise.  Which raises questions about the quality of writing at that source.

His manners? This POC had no manners. No character, no ethics, & no sense of decency. We're to believe that this "enlightened" individual didn't know what he was doing & what our purpose there was *before* he enlisted? Bullwoogie. The taxpayers paid for his transportation & access to our enemy. And that was part of the plan.
