Title: Word Filter
Post by: Rebel on January 22, 2008, 02:10:06 PM
We have the feature here to allow everyone the option to censor or not censor words. In your profile you can select "leave words uncensored". Problem is, we have no words that are actually filtered/censored.

I'm asking for everyone's input. Do you like this option? If so, I'll add the profane words to the censor list and every poster will have the ability to censor or not.

f**k no!

You do understand that you can personally leave them uncensored, right?

I vote yes.
I know of another board where it has worked out very well. It's a non-intrusive feature that allows a poster their own personal choice to filter what they read.

Good idea. People can then filter to their own tastes.

Sounds good to me.  My biggest gripe with the old site was that one word was always filtered.  As I've said on there a million times, either it's all OK or none of it is OK.  Everyone just tiptoed around my posts on this, even Gator wouldn't touch it.
I'll try it here.....
cracker, honky, kike, chink, ******, wop, spook, smokefoot, spade, wetback, greaser, spic

There's one in particular that never showed up at CU.

OK, it worked.  I hate that there's a word that just scares the shit out of everybody  that hears it.  If that's what you are, that's just what you are.  If you are offended by anything I say, then I'm probably talking about you.

I don't really get offended by any words.  There is one abbreviation that I could really do with out.  However, I am not sure if it is even able to be censored.  I don't like the OMG announcements but when someone puts an extra letter in there it makes my head want to explode.  Do you know what I am talking about?  Can that be censored?  I think it is perhaps the most offensive term I have seen on any forum.

Oh, the new word filter?  **** is censored but ****ing is not.  You might want to fix that.   :-)
