Feinstein says Obama should move terror trials from New York City

President Barack Obama should order the trial for Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and other accused terrorists moved out of New York City, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said Thursday.

Feinstein, the chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, is the highest-ranking Democrat to urge the administration to reverse course on its decision to bring the terror leaders to Manhattan for trial.

"In my view, from an intelligence perspective, I think the situation has changed with the Christmas attack," Feinstein said on MSNBC, citing confidential intelligence briefings.

"I think the administration should listen to the mayor, listen to the mayor's concern, and, candidly, make a change," she said, referencing New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's urging the administration to move the terror trials out of the city. "There's nothing wrong with making a change."

Democrats have steadily turned against the administration's plan to try Mohammed and other suspects in New York, with several Democratic senators and a member of New York's delegation, Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D), calling for moving the trial.

"There are other places to try it in the U.S. that are much more remote, much less a target, and much less a squatting ground for propaganda around the world," Feinstein explained, though she declined to suggest where the administration might move the trials.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton defended the administration's decision on the trials during a gaggle with reporters on Thursday.

"He agrees with the attorney general's opinion that — in November — that he and others can be litigated successfully and securely in the United States of America, just like others have, like Richard Reid," Burton said. "Currently our federal jails hold hundreds of convicted terrorists, and the president's opinion has not changed on that."

Plenty of comments by readers, all of them good:

My word, the woman does have at least an iota of common sense. Does that mean she will be thrown out of the Democrat party?

This president is truly insane. Does he ever listen to the will of the American people? We don't want to try terrorists on our soil. What dooesn't he understand about that? There really is no doubt that come November 2nd, it will be the biggest takeover without guns that this nation has ever seen when democrats all over this country go down to defeat. I love it.

Hey, wasn't KSM also involved in the planning of the attack on the Pentagon? Why don't they have the trial in Washington D.C.? Let see if Obama has the guts to have that trial in his backyard instead of putting this extraordinary burden on NYC.

Quote
If they actually believe there is little security risk, have the trial in D.C.

Why not move the trials to San Francisco? I am sure that the constituents of Feinstein, Boxer and Pelosi are willing to support their actions with consequences.

These trials are becoming a joke and they should have been handled swiftly and fairly by the military. This spending is totally ridiculous. We are in a war with foreign terrorists - NOT protecting the rights of peaceful protesters who are citizens. Each excess to the left our government's leaders indulge in gets the public angrier. It is the common people get who have to pay the bills and whose children have to fight in these wars. History proves when a government breaks down and can no longer protect its citizens in time it will be replaced!

The trial should be moved to CHICAGO!

Move the KSM trial to San Francisco. The Governator says CA needs the $$.

I like the SF idea for all the obvious reasons - Aren't radical muslims part of that "diversity" thang. But DC has to be the winner. Every night, channel upon channel reporting KSM's attacks on O and the US. It'll be on the local news and national news and then Leno et all will hit it again. The Wapo will have to gag and cover it, the times and examiner will provide coverage gleefully. The sunday shows will have show endless clips. NYT may even make passing reference to it. Genius from the poster who suggested it.

What's to be gained by having the trial in NYC? You will just put millions of people at risk, cause huge traffic issues and cost millions. Does Obama know anything about the reality of actual commerce? People have enough traffic issues in NYC without that type of circus going on Try them right there at Guantanamo.

If there is a terrorist attack in New York during the trial Obama and the rest of the Democrats are finished. The public will throw all of them out and. Fineswine knows this.

The above's just the surface.

Another similar article, gets a bit more in-depth.

"It would be great if the federal government could find a site that didn't cost a billion dollars, which using downtown will, and it will also impact traffic and commerce and people's lifestyles downtown and it would be great if we didn't do it," Bloomberg said on Wednesday.

Bloomberg estimated the security cost would be $216 million for the first year and $206 million annually thereafter and called on the U.S. Congress to foot the bill.

How about at the bottom of one of those missle silo's out in ND.....in the dead of winter.

Would certainly keep the reporters out of the way.....  :whatever:

I must say that I am surprised at the remarkable sense of logic that Feinstein is showing.

She must be up to something.

She's worried about DimRats losing seats if something happens in NYC.
