why is
« on: April 01, 2011, 09:24:12 AM »
Why is google interfering with my page loads of conservativecave?

It's a new phenomenon, started just now.

A page here comes up, but is frozen while in the meantime, in the lower left-hand side of the screen, just above the task bar (where it usually says "Done" when done), there's a bunch of google stuff that loads, and until it gets done, the page remains frozen.

How can I stop this, assuming it's more than just a short-term phenomenon?

It says things such as "googleads.pageclick" and other nonsense.

I don't want to deal with it.

What browser are you using, Frank?

If you';re using Firefox, go get this add on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

You'll also have to install some filters which is in the install procedure

Firefox.

Thanks, Thor; I'm doing what you suggested right here and now.

For some reason, it got really irritating; a phenomenon I hadn't seen before.

It was taking a long time for the "Done" word to show up.

Well, the short of it is: Your computer sends a page request to our server, Then, our server has to send a request to Google and then Google has to send those ads back to us. Then, our server has to send the combined info to the user's computer. Depending on how hard Google is getting hit with requests, it can take a little bit. Those of us on newer computers and a good broadband connection don't usually notice it. Those with older computers & slow connections WILL notice the lag.

This was the first time, ever, there was a lag.

This morning.

But it's all cleared up now.

So franksolich is back to his usual mellow self.

Thank you, sir!
