While cataracts can be caused by many things, including age, radiation exposure and diabetes, practicing some preventive methods and ensuring good nutrition can help slow or delay cataract formation. Phil Le Breton, the owner at Wholesale Nutrition, outlined some of the steps consumers can take to fight the onset of cataract, a clouding of the eye’s lens, including wearing sunglasses to reduce exposure to ultraviolet rays and using nutritional supplements.

Studies have shown many antioxidants can help reduce cataract risk by addressing oxidative stress that can lead to degeneration of the eye’s cells. Vitamins C and E are two popular antioxidants shown to reduce eye strain and oxidative stress. Other antioxidants include the carotenoids lutein, beta-carotene and zeaxanthin. Further, beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A in the body; vitamin A is in high demand in the eye to function. B vitamins and zinc are also used to maintain the metabolism of the eye.

There have also been studies that the herb Eyebright has help to prevent cataracts. This herb is concerned the Eye Herb.http://health.learninginfo.org/eyebright.htm
It cleanses the liver and blood.

I had a lady call into the store, saying she was to have cataract surgery in 3 weeks. I had her try Eyebright herb along with Carlson A,C,E and Zinc. She called back about 2 weeks before her surgery saying her doctor examined her. He told her she wouldn't have to have surgery at this time, because for some reason they were shrinking.
