What I told an undecided voter at lunch today

There's this guy at work named Mike that I eat lunch with everyday. He voted for Perot in '92 and '96 and for Bush in '00 and '04.

He's a registered independent who is fiercely libertarian in his viewpoints. He's a good guy, but he's the "bitter" guy that Obama talked about months ago.

He doesn't like McCain... and he was talking about the Keating 5 a year ago before the primaries. He's very anti-corruption.

He's consistent.

He likes EVERYTHING about Obama, except his "big Government" leanings. He wants VERY badly to vote for a "man of color", but he's scared to death that he'd be voting for a change away from capitalism. He's convinced Obama is going to win anyway.

I asked him... "30 years from now, what do you want to tell your grandkids about the 2008 election?"

He said, "that I made the right choice."

I replied, "Kennedy won in 1960 by about 1%. But 20 years later, nearly 60% of the public 'claimed' they voted for him. People want to be on the right side of history. Vote for Obama, then take a digital photo of your vote. Save this photo for your grandkids. They will live in a world where they will be proud that their grandfather was on the right side of history. They'll probably frame it."

He said, "I never thought of it that way."

I replied, "How cool will it be to be part of something like this? To be like those that rejected the anti-Catholic rhetoric in 1960. To be like those that rejected the laissez-faire rhetoric in 1932. To be like those who bravely rejected the pro-slavery rhetoric in 1860. And you have the technological means to prove to your descendants that you did the right thing."

He's voting for Obama.

He's 43 years old. I'm 41.

Besides the fact that its illegal to have your cell phone camera out during the voting process, this guy is clueless.

It was bad enough that they had raw carrots for lunch to satisfy the veggie moonbats but then to have to sit and listen to that junk.......I feel his pain.

All O has GOT is his big government leanings you fool. As O is a socialist it stands to reason that a vote for O is a vote against capitalism.

Someone that "wants VERY badly to vote for a "man of color"" for no other reason than his color is equally as racist as someone who refuses to vote for someone simply because of their color, but you leftist twits don't have the ability to realize that.

So, keep telling yourself that O is going to win. It'll give us another 8 years of rabidly foamy "selected not elected" stories to laugh our asses off at.

Can't they just add a single straw of reality and say a center left RINO?

Come on a libertarian is going to vote Obama?
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I've never asked any relative some sillyy, pie-in-the-sky question like that.  What bullshit.

Oh, it's possible that such a creature could exist.  libertarians are a rare enough breed, but I've found that many of them don't even know what they supposedly believe.  They think it's cool to be on the outside, and they think they're all for liberty - I mean really, who self-identifies as anti-liberty? - but they don't understand what that entails.  They sure as hell don't take the time to read Locke, and more often than not they don't even bother with Jefferson.  They can't identify the fundamental difference between positive liberties and negative liberties, they can't explain why no government can provide for positive liberties without infringing upon negative liberties, and they can't explain under what circumstances, if any, they feel such infringement is permissable.

Such a "libertarian" calls himself such because he supports economic freedom, so that eliminates Democrat and Green as an option, and he supports social freedom, so that eliminates Republican as an option, and he sees that the libertarian philosophy supports both these things, so he goes with that.  Seldom if ever does he think out his true feelings on these issues further than these sound bites - if he did he'd realize that either his support for personal freedom or (more likely) his support for economic freedom is not nearly as strong as what the libertarian label requires.

The creature described in the DUmp OP could very well exist (although he obviously doesn't, given that he was described at the DUmp).  He'd be an asshat.

The Founding Fathers only got it half right.

BS, any sane human would want to vote for a candidate who shares their values, regardless of color or gender.
