Maybe it's time for a proper intro.  I'm a Coast Guard vet, a mod over at USMilnet, on most issues I'm about three steps to the right of center (five being over the cliff).  Trying to be an impartial mod over at USMilnet I avoid talking about religion and politics (too much) over there; I plain don't talk religion, but some of my politics might come out over here.

I'll start with "what did you do in the CG" cause it leads into "vftb".  I was a Quartermaster, in the Navy and the CG a Quartermaster is (or should be) "expert helmsman", practical navigator and (in the CG) signalman.  As you can see, all of the stuff takes place on the bridge; therefore, vftb="view from the bridge".  :-)

Did you always like to be out on the water? I grew up on LI and we would go out in the Sound, mostly to drink. The guys would pretend to fish. I don't remember much of it, due to the effects of sun and liquor, and a shitty memory in general. "Quartermaster" sounds cool.
