Okay, but question.

The old format worked fine; why did the new owners change it, causing much disruption for members and visitors alike?

If something already works, one doesn't "fix" it.

One of our commitments to the members of JPR is to be open and transparent in its operation. We have some serious issues in posting. We know that. We have spent hundreds of hours attempting to fix all of the issues including having several incredible members log into a clone sight to test various parts of the site so we could troubleshoot causes and test results.

They took the time and effort to help us out and I want to thank them before we go into the nuts and bolts of what is happening.

So, what did we discover? Well, one thing that we found right off the bat is one of the most useful plugins actually gave us real trouble in the Private Messaging section. In fact it sort of killed it. It has been removed so everyone can have their PM work but it cost us titles to comments and some of the moderating tools like reporting posts.

We discovered that we should just get rid of the new block editor Gutenberg and reinstall the classic editor and an upgrade known as TinyMCE Advanced. That happened last night during the temporary shutdown.

We discovered that our posting issues are being caused by several factors, not just WordPress. How do we know that? Well, let’s see if this list covers most of the posting problems:
Post disappears when submitted.

Post doesn’t post when submitted, but just sits there like a zombie.

Post fails to post and I get a warning that it can’t be published at this time.

Can’t place text in the text box, or can’t post anything in the text box.

That should be about 95 percent of the problems that I’ve read about or been notified about.

Two of those issues aren’t caused by the core code. Period.

One of the remaining two can be caused by both the core code and some interaction of a plugin.

Only the one displaying the warning is totally caused by WordPress. But it doesn’t finish what it starts like it is supposed to.Now, you might ask “How he know that?”

Simple. I don’t. But a true hired gun expert did us the courtesy of coming onto our site as both a member and an administrator and he said that. And I trust him because I know his credentials and you don’t get better at this than this guy is.

Now for the funny part.

He has no idea what could be the cause of our posting problems except a general idea of where to go looking in depth. He never got the warning issued so I took a screen shot of it nailing me as a regular member when I attempted to post “socialist piece of shit” in the text box. It sure didn’t like that one little bit, and it ate my post and gave me the warning. It was supposed to pass the post into a thing called the Moderating Queue, but that never happened. It never has.

So, to make a short story longer, here is what is going on behind the scenes as it were.

Deadpool is busy creating JackPine Radicals version 4.0. Why are we doing this? It looks a whole lot better just for starters.

Everything we get fixed for 3.0 will be incorporated directly into 4.0 immediately. At this point he may get an award for having the most unknown posting problems ever seen by the community.We have hired a problem assassin to fix the posting problem immediately. It won’t happen for a short while, but there is a time constraint included. This assassin is also going to be approached to develop some of the best features of the 2.0 version that are missing. Those ‘improvements’ were hacked into the back end of the core code and ultimately became the major reason we had to abandon that version. This time we are going do it right. The improvements are going to be front end plugins that can be removed and/or upgraded and will not crash the core WordPress code. These are going to be pretty expensive so they have to wait.

By the way, here is a preview of the new format of the new JPR. Lots of things will change, the font size being one of them. Just thought I’d give you a peek…..

The old format wan't working for over half the board. The issue was they could type in the subject line, but when they went to type text in the body, as I'm doing right now, it wouldn't post, just what they wrote in the subject line.

The new format was suppose to fix that. But, as with virtually everything liberals attempt, they make it worse instead of better.
