My best guess is that about twenty, twenty-five, years ago (the oblate spheroid is in her mid- to late 40s), the submarine skipper was at some luxury beachside resort on the western coast of Mexico, and ran into her. As the oblate spheroid was part of the 1% of Mexico, that's probably where one could find her.
And then maybe the oblate spheroid's mother put some sort of love-potion into the sailor's drink, and he drank.
And thus the marriage. She became an American citizen in either 1999 or 2000.
